Hey,
Rob from DEADTECH here.
We've been working on a project called "circumvention device"
where sound artists use the DeCSS source code as a creative
sound element in their work. The CD and MP3's are released
under the GPL (GNU General Public License) -- the same
license software like DeCSS, Linux, FreeBSD and GIMP are
released under.
The first CD is being mastered and is going to the plant next week.
(Awww yeah!!!!) We're taking paypal orders for the t-shirts and
preorders for the CD at the site. This is a TOTAL NO PROFIT
release. 3$ off the sale of each item is being donated to the Electronic
Frontier Foundation who have been defending 2600 in their case
where they lost the ability to not only post the DeCSS source code
but also lost the ability to even fscking link to it.
We're also taking submissions for Vol 2. of the CD if you're interested
in contributing.
There's a ton more details on the site if you'd like to submit a track.
I won't bore you here.
There's also a good bit of info and links as to what DeCSS, GPL,
and the EFF are.
We've got the MP3's up now so feel free to check out the work.
artists involved are (in alpha order):
Øcÿ VÅ><§
kim cascone
chinese playboy
ethan clauset
dissasembler
robb drinkwater
justin c. rounds
Thanks for the post,
Rob
