Hello. There doesn't seem to be much discussion of Mille Plateaux releases in here. Is everyone busy checking out other labels, or maybe they're not getting a decent distribution in the US? Anyway, after slowly managing to get my brain around "Clicks & Cuts", I've slowly begun exploring MP's back catalogue. Thus far I've nabbed: Ihan - "Iota" Alva Noto - "Prototpyes" Vladislav Delay - "Entain" Gas - "Zauberberg" Gas - "Konigsforst" Gas - "Pop" SND - "Make SND Cassette" Just bought those Gas albums in the past week and I'm very pleased with them. Lots of extremely dark ambience, unnerving trance. Seems to comprise of huge loops of obscure classical music shoved through the wrangler, detuned and layered with doom-laden pulses, thumps and slow-motion rhythmic movements. Beautiful stuff. Once associated with the music, the name "Gas" itself conjurs up its more sinister connotations, whilst the artwork consists of close-up photos of forests/nature, albeit with a dark red/yellow filters. Everything compliments each other nicely. Time to explore some more Mille Plateaux. Anyone got any recommendations from recent releases that aren't currently represented by MP3 clips on their web site? I'm more interested in the Gas/Vladislav Delay/SND style of dark loops and sinister ambient/trance rather than the malfunctioning electrical devices of Ihan and Alva Noto. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

you picked up plenty of gems IMHO.... you really should check out the Vladislav Delay album "Multila" on Chain Reaction which is wonderfully sublime, dense, organic atmospheres. Sutekh's "Periods.Make.Sense." release is great for a hybrid of the more upbeat clicky moments of clicks_+_cuts with some more Chain Reaction oriented sounds and some outright ambience. It's on Mille Plateaux/Force Inc.

Oh yeah, I've got that. Didn't mention it because it was on CR rather than MP. Just noticed that my copy of "Entain" has disappeared thougn. Opened up the case today, intending to shove a track on a compilation for a mate, only to discover no CD in the case! I've looked everywhere for it -- even inside other CD cases and PC game boxes (occasionally used it as a soundtrack for Quake 2 CTF sessions)! I just know the moment I buy a replacement copy, I'll find the original sandwiched in the pages of a book, or something. <sob>

I'd also recommend Twerk's "Humantics" on Force Inc.. I've also checked out the Sutekh album, but I liked Twerk's album more. I find his sounds more interesting, they have a sort of spiky, digital, "EP7" like quality to 'em, but coupled with that 4/4 feel of course. Really bouncy and with less ambient moments than Sutekh. I think this one's a bit underrated. Yes, It's true. Due to unforseen circumstances, Squarepusher, Plaid, and Mira Calix will not be coming to Miami on August 31st. Ahhh, who needs them? We've concocted a new evening of fun for you at the same time and place. The lineup is as follows: Otto Von Schirach (Schematic) Straight from the wheelchair ramps of Little Havana, Otto returns to the stage with MPC in tow, microphone in hand, and sliced mucus farts on the brain. With special guest Mr.Soundwaveä. DJ Infamous (the Allies / Miami) 98 ITF USA champion, 99 DMC teams world runner-up, 99 ITF world team champion, 2000 ITF Beat Juggling world champion, and destined to be the 2001 DMC World Champ. Watch him take a microscope and an exacto-knife to all the songs you know and love. Schematic style cut-up madness using only records and fingertips. I-Sound (Transparent-Full Watts / NYC) With a style that balances uncompromising experimentalism with healthy doses of populism I-Sound attempts to bridge the gaps between high and low, academy and street, chaos and structure. Want to know what all those words sound like? Come listen. and lest we forget: Secret Frequency Crew (Counterflow Recordings / Miami) Salim Rafiq (Fuel / Schematic/ Miami) As is the policy with all Schematic produce, your satisfaction is guaranteed. 9pm, Friday August 31, 2001 location: the Polish American Club address: 1250 NW 22nd Avenue directions: from SR836 > exit 27th Avenue north > right at NW 14 Street (first traffic light)> right at NW 22nd Avenue > venue is on the right price: $10 for more info visit www.schematic.net Tune in to 90.5 FM WVUM / wvum.org
