I've been really disappointed with my recent purchases. Well, not THAT disappointed, but a lot of them have only been listened to once or twice cuz that's all they're worth. And I bought most of them because of hype on this list. Here's the ones I'm speaking specifically of: - fizzarum - rinsing (mp3.com release) - funkstorung - appetite (cheap, distasteful vocals maim an otherwise good album) - a guy called gerald - essence - kid606 - down with the scene - lexaunculpt - double density (who do we love) - pole 3 (not terrible, but disappointing conisdering the reviews) - staedtizism (~scape compilation - well, this one's ok actually) - fax cat. from emusic (only a few good releases, tetsu inoue's ambiant otaku being the only excellent one) - schematic cat. (everything is bad except for the devine ep and the compilations) I think my last truly exceptional purchase was ovalprocess, lackluster's container is a close second. Anyway, this is discouraging because I know that good idm is being released; I just don't know where to find it anymore apparently. So could anyone point me in the right direction? -charlie P.S. Recommendations not limited to idm (any good ambient albums released lately? dub?) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Kind of delayed response here... Neferiu Records has just officially released their first compilation cd, the Neferiu Sampler. Truly something to check out if your interested in some fresher idm stuff, but are courageous enought to venture into some other styles as well. The disk features some fine idm stuff from Lackluster (HALOAW), and from Frank And Bill (asfaw). It also stands host to two of the most aspiring prospects for future idm amazement, a duo known as ilkae. Aside from the idm stuff, you got Lukas (mortimer twang) Nystrand on funky house, Krii on the jazzy junglistics, and Willbe on the grooves of late-night lounge trip hop. Perhaps something to check out, as its official release date was the 26th of September. At www.neferiu.com you can hear real audio samples of all the tracks on the Neferiu Sampler, plus the site is, for a limited time, offering a few tracks as high quality mp3 downloads one at a time. Right now, you've probably got about a day or so to grab Willbe's track, and the Ilkae track is going up next.. If you're interested in ordering the disc, its available at www.hmv.com , or there's mailorder instructions on the web site. Neferiu Records will also be hosting Salice's new ambient/idm self titled album in the future, as well as an up and coming emotional excursion with Sense. Hope this ends your search. overnout, .: n a t e . s c h m o l d :. n e f e r i u . r e c o r d s w w w . n e f e r i u . c o m -----Original Message----- From: Armchair Charlie [mailto:dubnovibrator@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, September 25, 2000 7:08 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Lack of good new releases in idm/elm I've been really disappointed with my recent purchases. I've heard all this hype on the radio about a guy called Gerald so I checked it out at the record store... the girl behind the counter said "ooh, this is really great"... I guess I just didn't get it. Don't know how IDM it is, but I would suggest checking out Biftek. Anyone else heard of Biftek? I hadn't until I visited Australia. dan -----Original Message----- From: Armchair Charlie [mailto:dubnovibrator@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, September 25, 2000 6:08 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Lack of good new releases in idm/elm I've been really disappointed with my recent purchases. all you really need to do is look to the morr music catalog, the new comp is big and some people probably think a little excessive, but if you are into pop idm you really will like most anything off this label, if you like lackluster you will really like the artists on this label. check out the new styrofoam, i really love this cd. also the phonem cd is excellent, and pop loops for breakfest by b. fleschmann is a great cd, although its not on morr. Marumari is really good. also e*vax at www.audiodregs.com is really good, kinda like isan. Arovane is really really good. I have one of the pub 12" on vertical form, i bet the cd is really good. Shuttle 358 on 12k is excellent, minamial but really listenible music. that taylor dupree and tetsu inuoe cd on 12k is good also. there really is alot of good idm out there being produced you just got to dig. the label pitch cadet is releasing some good classic sounding idm, m-tec is good i have only heard a pitch cadet comp, but i really like it alot. Matmos is good, you may not like it, but if you spend time with it, its really good. If you have not heard slicker, i would suggest that. Also check out mark van hoens cd playing with time, excellent recording. hope this helps -scott --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The by far best idm (if you can call it that) album that i've bought in a while is the burnt friedman cd on the nonplace label. it's called "con ritmo" and it's a fantastic electronica/jazz hybrid. highly recommended. /franz --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

quoted 1 line I think my last truly exceptional purchase was ovalprocess,>I think my last truly exceptional purchase was ovalprocess,
Is Ovalprocess really a 20 minute track and a 40 minute track? I saw it on vinyl, but I passed on it because I thought a 40 minute side of 12" vinyl must not be able to last very long, considering I read that after 27 minutes on vinyl the quality of the grooves really starts degrading. To start some new hype, you should all take a break form the genre and go check out the album "Bottle Of Humans" by Sole on the Anticon label, it's the next level of hip hop. Colin. Well Charlie, that's the nature of the beast, really. It's Disposable Music. a really good idm album only comes once in a blue moon. did you really get the whole schematic catalog? #1 & #4 are classic 12"s, might want to listen to them again. my suggestions: solvent - solvently one listens savath & savales - more songs about trees and honey (or something like that) CiM - reference monolake - interstate maybe you could get into the minimal-glitch-house-thing (just think of it as ambient with a swingin' 4-4 beat): sutekh - periods.make.sense gramm - personal rock -- On Mon, 25 Sep 2000 20:07:36 Armchair Charlie wrote:
