Probably safest viewed in a text-only browser like Lynx on a UNIX box,
methinks. :-)
Netochka Nezvanova (not the name she was born with, let me add :-) is a New
Zealander, now living in Amsterdam, I believe. She organised a really
interesting gig here in Wellington, NZ, while she was studying music at our
local uni, maybe 4 years ago now. She got a bunch of people from dance
backgrounds and a bunch of people from electro-acoustic backgrounds, and
had them playing alternately in a concert with a big multi-speaker
diffusion set up. It was a lot of fun, because it forced some completely
disparate crowds to sit through each others favoured music and deal with it.
I remember being distinctly uncomfortable throughout the whole deal,
particularly when playing, as so few people had any time for the "other".
There did seem like a lot more variety among the dance stuff than the
academic stuff, all said... I remember everything starting out with a local
producer 50Hz playing this 180bpm jungle track that was going ballistic all
over the room through the 15 or so independent speakers... Heh. :-)
Not sure if this is particularly IDM-related, but I thought those who have
had to put up with her on-line antics on other lists might like to hear
something categorically true about the person, rather than just cyber-style
gibbering in whichever European languages look most intellectual. :-P
