regarding watching cannibal corpse live... why? they have the laziest drummer in all of death metal. I've never bothered to go see them myself, but I have friends who've seen em 3 times or so and say that every time they get blown off stage by the opening bands (like Nile or Angel Corpse)... Now CEPHALIC CARNAGE are the "hair" band to watch, very complex (and unbelievably fast) jazz/prog influenced grindcore/deathmetal with extreme disregard for typical song structures... and they thrash about on stage to the extent that it's hard to believe that they're hellishly tight live too.... then again, you may have been making fun of Canibal Corpse, hard to tell through the internet. those of you with emusic access can check out cephalic there... the new nile record is also interesting "ethno" death metal... ok, geez, i'm gonna get a rep for being a metal head.... I grew up in jersey, what can i say? :) IDM content: the new CEX record (role model) is pretty darn good. good range, sounds kinda like a hip-hop influenced rdj album era aphex with more glitchy stuff, and the occasional noise piece... which are actually too short for my taste... some of the songs are really beautiful in places... others are damn near booty-shakin'... some manage both. these are just my reactions from my first listen though... and I don't own any autechre records so no comparisons to them from me, heh. Get it fast, you've missed one of the best idm ever produced. It has no comparisons and is far away higher (in all senses) than most of the stuff made by the scene five years after. As to Cannibal Corpse... I almost forgot what death metal live show might be, it was at least seven years ago when I visited such. Now idm and d'n'b likes totally replaced old interests like My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Napalm Death, Entombed, Tiamat and the likes... I really doubt the metal will be back again. I prefer their first two albums: the EP sang in latin and the following full length "As Flower Withers..", though I have several later albums as well. As for me the most intellegent metal was made on the Peaceville label: At the Gates, Anathema, Traumatic Voyage, GGFH, Paradise Lost... Alien idm content: I've receved Thug's :"Isolated Rhythm.." And frankly speaking it is not what I expected to be. It is rather raw and unevolving as for me. I hope later on he's going to make more mature albums... IDM=Intelligent Death Metal The only of the band of the above mentioned that I can consider intelligent would be My Dying Bride. Angel and the Dark River is an amazing album. IDM content: any word on the b12 represses?
