so what do you think about the last night? i think Richard and Ed were brilliant. IMO Richard's set was very interesting and special. those hardcore tracks were funny:)) and Ed was as dancey as usual. the music of Ovuca was OK, but i don't really like this "laptop live performance" idea. and people were looking at him like he's doing something special, and he was just playing with LOGIC effects. i haven't met anyone from the LIST, have you been there at all?? also i couldn't check the DJ's in the other room, there was also some live act from Pussyfoot (Deep Cops?) which i've saw a little and they were playing with decks and some Nord Lead. i think the NOrd Lead wasn't connected at all... anyway i think that was quite a nice party, but Rephlex need a bigger place for Rephresh nights, there were so many people, i couldn't move. interesting and special. those hardcore tracks were funny:)) Was it just me or was there a load of new aphex material in his set? Rich was playing about with that laptop most of the time, and only seemed to play about 10 records (inc Squarepushers Full Rinse (feat. MC Twintub), super sharp shooter, and that bogdan one about the pretty girl on the dancefloor). He also played that wav thats been going around the internet for a while, that bt customer support thing ("..AND I MEAN PHYSICALLY!!"). If you don't know what I'm on about, mail me and I'll send it to you. The stuff which sounded like new aphex stuff was mostly very hyper drum'n'bass stuff, some slightly electroish stuff, and some stuff that I can only describe as noise. Not using that term in a bad way, but it really was just noise, all distorted, white noise, with occasionally a few times where you can pick up a rhythm in there somewhere. A bit weird.

I did run around and have a peek at the sceen, but didn't see that much intersting going on, just lots of knobs and sliders. Re: that whole business of laptop sets...I'm dead into it really. OK, so it's not quite as live as having a rack of synths and stuff, but its a step up from just mixing records.

for Rephresh nights, there >were so many people, i couldn't move. I agree with that, it was very packed in there. And I hope you weren't that annoying guy next to me who screamed like a girl every 20 mins!! Argh! Oh and being the little fanboy that I am, I pounced on Ovuca and Aphex as they were leaving the dj area and said a quick hello! I also met Luke Vibert there, and had a quick chat with him. We both know Phil Earl @ Law&Auder, so I actually had something to say other than 'I think you're great!'. :) Eddie --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

that would have been V/Vm! wow, i can't belive i finally get to hear V/Vm in a club... that is so cool, i can't wait till next month's! and ovuca is playing at smallfish on thursday (tOMORROW) wow... and he played plug... that was cool too... there should be more nights like that... the only thing that did annoy me though was the atrocious 4otfloor fucking techno shit that went on for hours, BAD BAD BAD techno, not even vaguely enjoyable (if there is such a thing), just shit, badly mixed wank. and they played "your names not down you're coming in" tune! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hate the deluge of shit 4 to the floor crap that london is so heavily under the influence club, rehresh is the only club night worth going to, but that really pissed me off... please no more!!! ever! ha... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That 'names not blah' song was one of the highlights of that set I think. It was at that point one of my mates stopped licking peoples backs, turned around and shouted at me, 'If you names not Ben, you're not coming in' which is what I'm calling the next album...but hum, I guess you had to be there! That's because "Don't Go" was bad-ass. That breakbeat absolutely slayed me the first time I heard it. Anyway...I suppose that's enough about dance music...back to the discussion of "intelligent dance music" or whatever.
