I was just listening to the tune Nightlife off of Tobin's Permutation and thought how cool it would be to hear movie soundtracks that mixed orchestration, jazz, and programming the way Amon does. I'd love to hear him do an entire soundtrack. Or... has someone already done this? I know that I occasionally hear cool bleeps, bloops, and beats behind commercials... but has anyone really incorporated anything like this as a movie soundtrack? -matT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

matT- i'm sure soundtracks, or life tracks have crossed amon's mind... specially if you check his microsite... my preferred choice would be "slowly"/"sex" or "4 ton mantis" anyone with film contacts feel free to get in touch. btw: the cinematic orchestra recently did this in may in portugal - they were given a soundtrack to rewrite and performed it live at a film festival...well, but it wasnt the way Amon does it, that's for sure... speaking of soundtracks, (ok, maybe off list topic) but what would you consider an idm soundtrack? taxi driver, betty blue, angel heart, dune, bladerunner?

I'm not sure I really know. I mean,... I've heard IDM/electronica type stuff used in movies but I don't think I've ever really heard an entire movie score "intelligently" influenced, so to speak; at least allowing the influence of the last ten years or so of electronica evolution. I know that programming is certainly used. But that's a far cry from the prospect of the next blockbuster movie soundtrack written (orchestrated/programmed) and recorded by the likes of someone like Amon Tobin. Maybe Hollywood's too scared of it to throw this stuff out for mass consumption. Maybe the right people still just don't know about it. In my opinion, though, I think it would work very well, indeed! -matT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree. And i think Red Snapper (circa "Prince Blymey") would make a great film-noir soundtrack...

It has nothing to do with the mutant jazz from Amon Tobin, but i remember the "Event Horizon" soundtrack composed by Orbital & Michael Kamen. There was a program on UK TV a while back that used nightlife, as well as other ninja tune stuff. I think it was called 'anatomy of desire'. It had a bit on wifeswapping and this 4 way marriage as I remember, and they used nightlife to soudtrack it. They playeding 'spy' by journeyman as well. It was a pretty bad program, but worth watching just to play spot the tune. Also, does anyone remember when they used 'dael' and 'clipper' by autechre on trailers for 'modern times' It was strange hearing that coming out the TV when you least expected it. They always seem to use boards of canada loads now on BBC trailers. It's interesting how quite strange music gets absorbed into the mainstream in unusual ways.
