me have story:
They filmed Dune in Mexico when I lived there 82-83 after my dad retired
from his life as govt agent/ex-supercop. The film company was eager to
hire Americans living down there as extras and since my dad took the year
off and had time on his hands he signed up. He was mostly a Harkonnen
(sp?) guard with a steamed up face mask so you cant recognize him, but he
was in many scenes - and the scene where the Baron rips one of those guys
suits are actually my dad's hands doing the ripping (not Max Von
Seidow's).
If you remember this was right after "Synchonicity" came out and this
movie was pretty much the first one Sting was ever in as he starred as
one of the evil baddies. After the knife fight scene Mr Sumner was in my
dad had some downtime and finally went up and asked this curious
Englishman where he got such an odd name like "Sting" (my dad is/was REAL
hip). When Sting explained he was with The Police my father delighted in
telling him he also had a career in law enforcement! Sting politely
nodded along and let ol dad spin his boring yarns of stopping bad guys.
He didnt figure it out till he came home and told us at dinner, and I
disowned him for about a week!
