i'm interested in hearing some suggestions for sad or depressing idm style music, in the vein of arovane's 'tides', boards of canada's 'hi scores' ep, autechre's more similar minded stuff like 'dropp', and possibly like lilienthal's first album or some of the tracks off aspen's second album. also, emotionally angry type of suggestions would be nice, like while's 'lock' album, or the 'intelligent industrial' stuff off of the ant-zen and hymen labels. regards, diseuphoric_boy ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

while I disagree about BoC, thinking about my recent purchases: anything phonem is nice funckarma most of the other arovane anything ae before ep7 some fax stuff if you're into melodic things lotsa basic channel/chain reaction john beltram is always melancholic swayzak stuff on kompact etc... funkstorung. lots... really there's very little idmish stuff that's happy sounding. If you want some genuinely angry/depressed illbient and dark DnB but managed to miss Christoph de Babalon's "If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It" (Digital HardCore DCD 8) a couple years back: Get It. Now. (If you can find it.) It's got a wonderfully dark vibe without ever being in the least contrived. BTW, does anyone know if CdeB has released or will release anything soon? It would be too bad if his remarkable first album were his only one... -Ed --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I second this suggestion. I'm really not at all into the manic sounds most often attributed to Digital Hardcore (Atari Teenage Riot, etc), but this album really surprised me. Sure, it has its share of hard, dark DnB. This isn't necessarily the reason to check out the record though. Instead, check out the few epic ambient pieces such as "Opium." Staying true to this particular song's title, the music just kind of drifts with an eerie, smoky sense of ease. These ambient songs are just plain disturbing with their subtle yet foreboding aura -- the sort of music you play after murdering someone or something to that effect.
