This is pretty off-topic, but what do you guys think of Manu Chao's album "Clandestino"? I've listened to it a lot in the last few weeks, and although I didn't like it at first, it's grown on me quite a bit. Not IDM, not quite pop, not really like anything I've heard before. Opinions? You're right there, but I love this record -- lots of weird sampled bits and a crazy delivery style I just love. Fearing the Off-Topic Beatdown, I'll keep this short: for a couple of other Latin-tronic fusions I love, check out Cafe Tacuba (Reves/Yosoy, a 2-CD set, with one disc experimental and one traditional) or the third album by Gilberto Gil from 1969 (lots of tape-music experimentation). Or better yet, how about the new Up, Bustle & Out? It was actually recorded in Havana and features an accompanying book (150 pages!) by Rupert Mould. Admittedly, though, it's not quite a fusion -- it has a couple trip-hop tracks, then a Latin track, etc. .John. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Wow, I was just listening to it! I can't imagine it would be universally loved by all on the IDM list, but I think it r0x0rz. Me llamo el desaparacido... Of course, I was a huge fan of Mano Negra (I heard "The Rebel Spell" in a skate video when I was 15, and oddly enough I managed to find the record :) heh. If you don't have any of them, get "Puta's Fever", then get the rest. Think crazed street muscians in several different languages with a baddass horn section.... nice nice nice. Absolutely not IDM. I and M, but no "D".) There are parts of it that would probably seem cooler if I didn't speak english, and it's frustrating not to totally understand the lyrics at times, but those are problems you're going to encounter with anything outside of one's native tongue :) One of my coworkers freaked out when she heard me listening to "King of the Bongo" which was apparently an overplayed MTV hit in Italy *shrug* -- .Bil. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
