Just to let everyone know, Warpmart is now accepting orders for the new Plaid compilation album. I ordered my copy yesterday afternoon and received it this morning, well ahead of it's advertised release date, so if people are itching to get hold of a copy of this, head over there. James A.D. It's excellent, actually. I've never heard any of the material off of Mbuki Mvuki, and Plaid were right when the said that it's pretty rough sounding. But it's still interesting. All fairly Scoobs In Columnbia style. Probably the best thing about the compilation is the set of unreleased tracks that come with it. Chirpy, Prig and Eshish are all unreleased tracks, all of which are excellent, Eshish displaying leanings towards the sound they adopted on Not For Threes. Probably my favourite track is another unreleased one called Tan Sau which is simply magnificent. It's nice to have this album, if only to prove to my friends that Plaid didn't always produce the goofy sort of music that features heavily on Rest Proof Clockwork (which I love incidentally - it's just that a lot of people I know who aren't into IDM claim that it's too "silly"). The inclusion of the tracks they released through Kirk Degiorgio's Art label is cool since a lot of this was classed as highly experimental and influential if I'm not mistaken (I don't claim to be an expert on the history of IDM or electronica). I'd recommend this to anyone in an instant. The packaging is very nice too :) James A.D. Knapman.

Thanks, James, for the review. Must ask : when was The Black Dog / Black Dog Productions formed? I seem to have things like the Virtual EP and Age of Slack EP dated as stemming from 1989. Wow! They still kick very nicely, thank you. That's eleven years ago. Were they all still in nappies?
