shit dj slacker! i was barely sixteen when i first heard photek and rdj, actually i used to dig more photek than rdj cause aphexboy used to make me giggle with them bouncing balls ! but then i heard boards of canada and realized the so-called 'idm' was my shit. later i found myself making shitty noise influenced by merzbow and masonna. when there's nothing that amazes you anymore you run to the mother of all: silence. (or in the worse cases: wussrock!) i heard pole and lalalalalalalala... keeps on. (actually when i thought idm was more about thinking than feeling, bogdan raczynski came to my ears and shut my mouth rudely, ahem...) i propouse to you kids in this idm list to make some emotional-chaotic-intelligent-noise! i have absolutely no gear but i own quite a few old/shitty softwares (i'm a pc boy, urgh), what do you say 'j slacker? wendy k? anyone? we can do what this list was originally doing a while ago, but this time us kids. AH which reminds me! Has anyone heard this other kid called Cex? i lost the link but i'll post it later on, the guy's only 18 i believe (like myself), some of the tracks are quite ridiculous and unworth of download (there's some of his early work at mp3.com, that's not what i'm talking about though). i'll look for the link later.. e/spacek

actually, the stuff on mp3.com isn't early work. i did that stuff a few weeks ago. and i'm quite proud of those tracks. especially the one that has the shocking revelation about Huey Lewis and the News. ("Is movement a cause of pleasure?") IDM would be a thousandfold more beautiful if there were more artists unafraid to tackle hard-hitting issues of our time, like the similarity of Huey Lewis and the News songs. -rk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

speaking of which, the spiel on Huey Lewis's music by Christian Bale in "American Psycho" was absolutely amusing!! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've made a track that I would consider to be at least three of the above (emotional, chaotic, and noise - I can't make any claims as to how intelligent it is/isn't) - If anyone would like to check it out I'd be thrilled. If anyone would care to comment on any of it, I'd be quite thankful (getting people to speak up and critique your work is difficult - go ahead, lets hear what you're thinking!) You can DL it here: ftp://ftp.teklab.com/teklab/a3k/A3K_SONGS/MPEG3/rankStankyDemon.mp3 Its going to be on a compilation CD by some folks using the name KLÄNG (coming from @addcom.de) - I'm curious if anyone can verify if this is the same KLÄNG thats been mentioned on this list (I'd be surprised if it is...) bla bla bla --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Ah piss off -- I turn 43 in July and bought my first techno records 10 years ago, and first warp records soon after that ... As far as the IDM Kids/Chaos thing. More power to them, but it's hard enough to put together the skills to be a craftsmanlike musician much less an artist. Believe you me. On the other hand, kids have more time on their hands than adults, and a bunch of free or bootlegged software and a $600 computer is all you need to get started. Unfortunately the stuff that's easy to use forces you down some pretty deep ruts unless you're crafty enough to misuse them, and the really powerful stuff takes more than one stoned evening to figure out. Anyway y'all kids knock yerselves out. First step -- spend an evening listening to as much stuff as you can stand on mp3.com, and then don't do anything that sounds like that. If you want a perfect counterexample, listen to the 'torley wong techno kid' tracks. Or better yet, download the cheesiest track you can find and deconstruct it until it's unrecognizable. Playing them backwards through a big muff pedal usually improves most of that kack. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

thanks a lot for the humorous namedrop, Kent... i totally agree (sans sarcasm, mind you). a bit surprised you remembered me after all this time :)! errr... i still reckon the instrumental for Christina Aguilera's "Genie In A Bottle" would make a nice IDM track with a few tweaks here and there... while we're on the topic, anyone wanna take a go at that current Britney single? she's "not that innocent" anyway, in her own words, so it don't really matter, aye?
