Hi, Today i found an Autechre 12" called 'Cavity Job' (Hardcore records). The shop assistant told me it was probably the first Autechre record. Can someone tell me if this is a reissue or something? I can't believe it's an original. Not that it's very good really... It's probably an original - do you have the b/w graffiti-style sleeve? I believe it is their first record - this release is referred to on the sleeve notes on Ai-I. I think Autechre had problems with being paid by Hardcore Records (well there's an unusual tale...) I was quite surprised and happy to find it a year or so ago in a 2nd hand shop in Cambridge (UK). Check out the B-side "Accelera 1 & 2" I think, it's a lot better than "Cavity Job", although the A is not without some merit when you consider the market it was aimed at and listen to similar little-label and whites from that period of "hardcore" techno. Most of it sounds really dreadful now. Cavity Job was their first release. IMHO it's probably worth the 50p you paid for it, but not too much more. I have it on CDR and can't get past the first cheesy bassline and sample without chuckling and fumbling for the remote. But, if you mean the going rate, you could probably get a few hundred from ebay to some completist. (It's a sellers market..)
