One telling me I'm obviously new, with no help, and saying some stuff about getting heckled. All i want to know is why autechre release material under the name gescom and if it is in anyway different to the ae stuff. is it harder, softer, vocal only? am i that much of an idiot newbie? <rant>I don't know what is wrong with these people, but it seems to me that elitism is rearing it's ugly head a tad too much on the list nowadays. I've been on the list for quite some time and the manners have gone from tolerant to outright stinking. I wouldn't want to apologise on anyone's behalf, but that is simply unacceptable. Some people should hop off their pedestal and learn to communicate and/or have some manners.</rant>

As far as I know, Gescom stands for Gestalt Communications and it is a loose collective of people consisting of Andy Maddocks (who runs Skam), Darrell Fitton (Bola), Sean Booth and Rob Brown (Autechre) and Rob Hall. The tracks vary depending on who has worked on them, the first Gescom EP (SKA02) has (to my knowledge and ear) two tracks almost completely by Fitton in the usual Bola style, and two harder and/or more difficult tracks. SKA03 has only two tracks, quite hard with Autechre-ish elements but with a definite twist. Key Nell (SKA007) has a Booth/Brown feel to it, but since the label doesn't say who collaborated on that one I can't tell you who's behind it. Motor (on Source [.fr]) is quite different from any of the above, straight and quite minimal, and it probably has the hardest Gescom tracks. Key Nell remixes on Warp were done by Autechre, so if you're familiar with their sound you should like that one as well. I have had the Gescom MD for two years now but I haven't heard it yet (as I don't have an MD and I'm always too busy to borrow a player from a friend :), but I have deducted from postings on the list that it is quite weird, small cut-up pieces in style of Autechre. As for the difference between Gescom and Autechre material, well, there is a lot in common between the two, so if you like Autechre (and Bola) you should like the Gescom material, too. I don't know if that gives you an idea of what the tracks are like since they vary quite a bit from release to release, but I admit that I like Gescom material a lot. I have the records at home so I can't give you a flow of though impression, sorry.

It seems to me that with abundant information available on the 'net some people think that anything on anything can be found. Each and every one of us has been a newbie at some point, but some people "in the know" have their noses so full of it that they've forgotten that everyone must start somewhere. Idiocy is in the eye of the beholder, to twist a common phrase.
