not IDM, really, but if you haven't heard about the recent goings-on with the Offspring and Napster, well, you should read up on it. http://www.sonicnet.com/news/story.jhtml?genreNameForDisplay=Rock&genreDirectoryName=rock&id=971590 Or you can just read the whole Slashdot thread on the subject at http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/06/05/217237&mode=thread Interesting stuff... ------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been posted from Mail2Web http://www.mail2web.com/ Web Hosting for $9.95 per month! Well - it certainly qualifies for the "I" part of IDM... This is the most intelligent response to Napster's activities that I've seen... "It's all fair," an Offspring source said on Thursday. "We've already said you guys [can use] our stuff — we're gonna do yours, too. You shouldn't have any problem with that, should you?" That is halarious :) Sonic Wallpaper _______________________ http://www.sonicwallpaper.com http://www.mp3.com/live http://www.mp3.com/remixes http://www.mp3.com/junglewarfare http://www.mp3.com/sonicwallpaper http://www.mp3.com/projectcathedral --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes... you are correct. I went back and read the article - I thought they were just placing the Napster logo on their own shirts - like a sponsor logo or something. But selling an item with just the logo is not the same thing. I didn't skim the article well enought, my mistake. - Sonic Wallpaper --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

well i really hope your kidding because in the whole debate it's actually one of the most UNintelligent responses to the Napster issue. The only way it could be an intelligent response is if they were providing the t-shirts free of charge. This comment is wrong: "We've already said you guys [can use] our stuff — we're gonna do yours, too. You shouldn't have any problem with that, should you?" Napster isn't using anyone's stuff and they most certainly aren't SELLING anything. Taking the Napster logo putting it on caps and t-shirts and then selling them for $10 a pop is definitely not the same thing ! shimone gideon@catalystmedia.com wrote:

i fully agree. i think the offspring did a terrific job of truly exposing napster. i'm surprised napster made a legal demand to offspring to stop selling the "swag". but this thread has grown tired. same with that fucking kid606 one. it's all subjective. there's no reason why that thread should have exceeded 2 messages. -- my phone keeps ringing, or maybe that's just my ears shaun- http://www.mp3.com/5x it's good --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Napster is gaining revenue from a program that facilitates unlawful trade of copyrighted material (not direct revenue but revenue generated based on the principal idea of the program) Offspring is gaining revenue based on the same criteria although granted in a more direct way End result and copyright principal is exactly the same All this talk of musicians of the future needing to gain their revenue via touring and merchandising as music will be free with corporate underwriting...I mean hey if copyright is going out the window then fuck it, I'm going to start selling Coke shirts as a sideline. Get while the gettings good and all that. I think this is the most genius response to the whole thing yet. Flip the copyright hotseat around and see what happens. (note : my views, not my companies views as a whole. Just bored and spouting...). Jeff

The news source that reported this kind of jumped the gun, and made some presumptions that were incorrect. I don't believe Napster ever planned to 'sue' Offspring or that Offspring was ever rebelling against Napster - in fact, I think they're supporters of Napster from what I've heard. Anyway, the way it's working out now, is that all revenues from the Napster merchandise is going to charity. No ill feelings between Offspring and Napster AFAIK. Feel free to correct me as I just learned about this all today... =) http://betanews.efront.com/article.php3?sid=960237328 (check the bottom update as well as user comments) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
