Dont think so.... Of course it may not be from the Rephlex label at all..... perhaps it's from a band called Rephlex. Think it said Kinethasia on the sleeve... does that sound possible...? Cosmic

Well no wonder Richard James and Mike Paradinas have such a bad opinion of netters, esp. if they hang around cheap alt.bulshit newsgroups... Whatever. Maybe I'll hang around lame newsgroups so I can be cool like the Rephlex posse. =) I like the music on Rephlex but they sure come off as being a little slow to figure things out. Oh well. Its not the harshness of the stuff on the label that bothers me so much as the crap releases. Rephlex , in my opinion, has become quite spotty in its releases over the last couple of years. They've had some brilliant disc out over the years(AB3, Tango N' Vectif, Cylobian Sunset, etc, etc.) but I haven't heard anything from them of that quality in ages. It all seems like a bunch of half assed novelty records. Indeed, this was exactly my point earlier in this thread. I'm glad somebody else agrees with me on this. There also seems to be a divided audience, those who like the hard stuff and those who like the 'other' stuff. They have released the odd really good release tho' but they're not churning them out like they used to, it's seems like 1 good release for every 3 or 4 'other' releases.

It's lame...funny, but IMHO it does NOT belong on Rephlex. It belongs in the Wierd-Al section or the trash. I have almost every Rephlex release, and Freakwincey is one of the ones I only have for completists' sake.

I have to agree that some RePHLeX releases border on the insane (and humorous, even). RePHLeX is not your run-of-the-mill label with a consistent track record, but I have to admit that they still keep surprising me. I have been following the label since 1992, and I have everything (and I really mean that) possible on the label on vinyl (excluded are the test-pressing-only and promo releases) and most of it on CD, and though I do agree that some of it could have been omitted, RePHLeX's back catalogue would not be the same without the odd bits. As I wrote earlier, I met Grant (Wilson-Claridge) and Richard (D. James), the founders of the label just a few weeks back, and though they are both very nice blokes they have a very uncompromising attitude towards music, they do their own thing, regardless of what some purists say. If you don't like the music they release, you don't have to buy or listen to it. There is so much music in the world that there is bound to be something for everyone.

I really liked ``You're the One''. The first 12" wasn't that impressive, but both versions of ``You're the One'' kick ass. Last year's RePHReSH here in Finland had someone playing Europe's ``Final Countdown''. Both Jones' releases are way better than that.
quoted 2 lines sam and valley?> sam and valley? >
I have to agree with you on this - just too weird. Japanese electronic pop/rock/whatever - I've probably listened to it once, and not thoroughly even then. But it is the only one I can't appreciate - out of a hundred releases (for fairness I have to say that Bodenstandig 2000 comes close, too, but the lo-fi synth pieces save the album).
quoted 2 lines freakwincey?> freakwincey? >
Fabulously produced piss-take on R&B. I really like the track, it still doesn't fail to make me chuckle (or in the case of hitting the bong, rolling on the floor/bed/sofa laughing).
quoted 2 lines i mean, i always expected more from aphex's label and still can't figure it> i mean, i always expected more from aphex's label and still can't figure it >
RePHLeX is _not_ Richard D. James. You can't expect every release on RePHLeX to be Aphex Twin. They're really just doing what they like, and not giving a damn about commercial success (though some of the releases have seen that, too) - and just paying no attention whiners who think that all the world's just Aphex Twin. As I was very pleasantly surprised, Richard is just a bloke doing his own thing - at the Ph1nland RePHReSH afterparty he was mixing with the crowd and chatting with people with his anorak and backpack on. His music is good and he is highly appreciated (revered, even) but it hasn't gone to his head - a very rare thing indeed.
quoted 3 lines oh, and dmx krew "fresh"> oh, and dmx krew "fresh" > what a joke. >
Initially I didn't much like any of DMX Krew's releases, but now I've started to appreciate (the irony of) the music. I was listening to cheesy italopop during the eighties, then graduating through mixed stuff like Max-Mixes etc. to my first visit to Ibiza during the summer of 1989 (I was 15) - new beat, acid house - I was instantly hooked. But I digress. I find Ed DMX's music well produced, it has more soul (and much, _much_ better melodies) than can be said for the clicks and cuts and DSP trickery movements nowadays. Tracks like ``Adrenalin Flow'' and ``Denki No Merodi'' are just brilliant. ``I Am A Mouse'' never fails to put a smile on my face (I am a mouse/I like eating cheese... :). I have had to learn not to take music so godawfully seriously. Labels like RePHLeX and are releasing music which challenges the way we think (about music) - probably why the RePHLeX lads started calling their style of music Braindance. As for the latest releases - Yee King's ``Superuser'', Kosmik Kommando's ``Laptop Dancing'' and PP Roy's ``You Can't Help Liking...'' - all very wicked. Well worth checking out if you've got an open mind and a broad taste in music. I think the Rephlex discography makes perfect sense. Take a moment and remind yourself whose label this is. Rephlex releases a wide variety of stuff, but RDJ has a different sense of the world than, say, Arista Records. Rephlex is his label and the releases represent his own tastes and styles. The benefit (bane?) of modern technology is that anyone with some cash can start a label and release records. The benefit (bane?) of consumerist culture is that anyone will buy anything with the right name on it. ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. I agree, that Jones, S&V, and Freakwincey are all a waste of vinyl.....I do like the "Love is Such a Treasured Thing" track, which has some very vast sampling potential in the right hands. DMX Krew - Ffffreshhh!..........I have to admid I like that one. "Got brand new shoes and a pencil case, to make goin' back less hard to face." Plus, Richard's mix of "Can't Hide Your Love" is brilliant and hilarious as usual. IMHO, Ffffreshhh was a great purchase

sorry, I sent that email without finishing my thought.... The reason the hodge podge of releases indicates to me that RDJ is not involved much anymore is, I think he would have thrown I Farted out the window. He likes to "remix shit that I can make less shitty" and I think if HE released CAT060, it would have a tracklist something like this: I Farted-Aphex Twin's Rotten Cheese Mix (with authentic flatulent samples from his truly) Love Secretion (a playful 170BPM squarepusher mutation) Let Me Lick You-Tootsie Pop Mix (as sung by Global Goon) When I Cum on You (a typical sexual-frustration-sounding Cylob track)

ok. its JAN 23. Last site update: DEC 12 Last Release: NOV 15 Its been over 2 months since their last release. And for a label of their smaller inclination, this may be not such a good thing. considering that usually they have given us 4-8 weeks notice for other releases, it may be march of april before we see a release from rephlex. So what the hell is the deal? are they planning some fucked up surprise, like a release without afforementioned promotion? oh well, they said that 2001 was the year of braindance, and so far, well... sad. n _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

damn, pick Kosmik Kommando's "Laptop Dancing", or Yee-King's 'SuperUser" 2 awesome records. Mike Dred unloads a 2lp arsenal of hiphop/freestyle/techno-house/braindance with BPM tags to boot. Yee-king, friend and band M8 of *SQ* Tom J. drops some ill braindance craziness aswell. Haven't picked up P.P Roy's "You Can't Help Liking" yet, but the audio clips sound great. I have trouble spending $22 on 1 record ya know. anyway, I think Rephlex is kinda slipp'n also. oh well, one less mouth to feed.
