In full understanding that this isn't really within the scope of this list: Maybe it's Cache Coeur Naif--it's not UiLab--but I've decided to bite the bullet and finally pick up a lone Stereolab disc for those late-night interludes, if for no other reason than just to display lack of imagination. Problem being they've got scads of uneven, often lackluster output, and I don't care nearly enough to sort through the whole mess. If anybody could shoot me an off-list e-mail with a short-list of Stereolab albums that that actually filter the frog chanteuserie into an interesting context, that'd be fab. Due apologies to list purists, but I was more interested in perspectives from listies here than from the die-hards that tend to have web sites on this sort of thing. Dots and Loops i like pretty much all their stuff but for the IDM context, there is really no argument that Dots and Loops is the one you want. -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Fri, 26 May 2000, Matthew Korfhage wrote:

Well, given I'm the guy that runs the Stereolab list, maybe Josh should just delete this message now... ..but probably the safest thing to recommend is either "Refried Ectoplasm: Switched On Volume 2" or best yet "Aluminum Tunes: Switched On Vol 3.". The latter is a nice transition period between the initial Neu!-meets-Free-Design phase of Stereolab vs. the current Sergio-Mendes-and-Os-Mutantes-as-0s-and-1s phase. As non-confrontational as most of Stereolab's music is, the polarization of opinions between the old and new can easily result in arguments and broken teeth...(OK OK, so I'm exaggerating, but you know what I mean, right?) ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> KUCI 88.9 fM in Irvine, CA -- Orange County ======================================================================= On Fri, 26 May 2000, Josh Davison wrote:

I heard Stereolab perform in Seattle and it blew me away... They had 2 Nord 3s on stage and also a bunch of old synths... I love this band and their new album deserves electronic album of the year in my opinion.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
