some recent records, and my views on them:
funkstörung "appetite for disctruction"
while none of the tunes on this album is as amazing as their
wu-tang remix, it is a much better album than "additional
productions". autechre-light-with-vocals.
amon tobin "supermodified"
supermodified is a very good album. it is also very similar
to his previous two albums on ninja tune. if you haven't heard amon
tobin before, pick "supermodified" up. the rest of us may ask
ourselves if we really need "permutation part 2".
rachel's/matmos "full on night"
post post post rock. one 12minute dreamily cinematic live
version of "full on night" by rachel's, one 18minute total rework by
matmos, dark sweeping noises and fragments of electric guitars.
brilliant. nice cover, too.
gusgus vs. t-world
pining for the days of "ambient dub volume II"? check these 7
instrumentals out. in this day an age it sounds a bit weak and
soft-edged. the epic last track "esja" is lovely, though.
v/a "darren emerson - uruguay"
darren emerson, ex underworld, mixes two cds worth of house &
techno, old favorites and new stuff. one of the best mix collections
i've ever heard.
dj cam "loa project (volume ii)"
for fans of dj shadow and other instrumental hiphop, a rather
good record.
max tundra "some best friend you turned out to be"
not in any way as good "children at play". a myriad of ideas,
none of the explored for more than a few seconds and none of them
very good either. best track "subsi kuku" is the ony one worth a few
minutes of your time.
