some recent 12"s, and my views on them:
a guy called gerald "humanity" 2x12"
think "finley's rainbow" crossed with lamb. louise rhodes
sings like she did on the first lamb album. it's a brilliant tune.
good remixes, too.
avril "now it's spring" ep
new f communications signing? a hybrid between björk and
david sylvian? a string orchestra? backwards beats, distorted and
digital? this is wonderful, been listening to "the big wheel" all day.
these 12"s are from small swedish labels:
8 tunnel 2 (blenda 001)
4 track ep, apparent influences from german minimalist dub
like Rhythm & Sound, Thomas Brinkmann and Pole. but 8 tunnel 2 leave
the minimalism behind them and exponentially turn up the complexity
of the programming. the two 10minute tracks are lovely, esp. "taxi",
while the other two tracks could have been better.
luke eargoggle & rutherford "stalkers/elsewhere" (stilleben 008)
one side of cold clear electro with hardly any space left for
human emotions, the other side is much better: still electro but much
warmer. "worship binoculars" does the kraftwerk and vocoder-bit but
still sounds new. the best tune on the ep, "distant love," can be
compared to boards of canada at their best. bloody good.
