There is no reason to fight about Squarepusher any longer. One day Hrvatski will get wack and decide that he's Miles Davis Jr. and then we can bitch about that when it happens, in the meantime, I suggest Hrvatski as the replacement Squarepusher (in the "oh my fucking god this CD is the fucking absolute *bomb*" sense, not the "wow, zippy breaks *and* fretless bass" sort of way, hopefully you know what I mean.) Jesus, fuck. This record is fucking awesome-- and I haven't even managed to listen to anything but the first track over and over (!) Where did those horns come from?!?! My god, these breaks are INSANE! Fuck! This is BETTER than "Nuclear Cats Get New Home!" I am AFRAID to listen to the rest of it, as I may blow out all of the PLEASURE CENTERS in my BRAIN. I'm serious, I couldn't listen to this in the car on the way home tonight because I was afraid I'd GET DISTRACTED and HIT a TREE (I almost did that once during an Eric Dolphy solo, so I stopped listening to jazz in the car forever, except for stuff with words.) Oiseaux 96-98 is the album of the year (aside from that live Clash record, of course.) God, I feel like Kelley Hackett all of the sudden. Please forgive my fanboy outburst. Good thing I got a kerosene powered CD player in case shit happens on new year's, because I'll probably still be listening to this one track. I beseech the rest of you to do the same. .Bil. No, Squarepuser is a muck. His jazz is not so.

Him an Miles? It is not to be. More in the space tradition of Old! his break is a good one, of Jesus! Shock!!! We live the fretless bass to Jacko, he is cocaine then beaten. Not our H! He stands! Although the drink makes him weaker

The horn is old brassing sounds from 70. I think maybe Bartok? He wrote some back in the day. He is a talented writer!

There is no fear for disalarm. Many cars will steer them so. Dolphy, yeah! H has done a great Dolphy track, with solos from music of India. It has balls!

YES! Clash are of the rocking! And High Rise to them a great tribute. Where is Cream? I love the power trio, mine is with Hrvatski's breaks! I have done the tribute of 'ON' by Richard James, only in the Clash/HR style. Hrvatski's sound is of RAW EMOTION, not to be shaken. His beats are what drives me. Perhaps a new sound will emerge. No, Squarepuser is a muck. His jazz is not so hot. Try the Albert Ayler sessions, or Frank Wright. Herbie doing Sixtant. There is some music!

I like Hrvatski's "Oiseaux" album, but "album of the year" it just isn't. One of the things I'm most critical of when listening to music is how the entirety of the album remains true as a whole... I don't like the tracks to be completely homogenous, but I like them to be about the same idea. "Oiseaux" remains a collection of outtakes, and it works well as a compilation, but as an album I'm not sure it holds together terribly well. He definitely rocks though.. Boston's prodigal electronic musician.. although I hate to say it, he's gone way beyond the Toneburst folks in terms of sheer musical ability and welcome surprises/deviations in all his tracks. later Andrew PS I've gotten some emails about when the Boston IDM compilation is coming out.. it's back from the presses, we just have to get our press packs together and send them out. If you want more info on this, email me. -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i think 'oiseaux' has the wowee zowee syndrome: extraordinary tracks in a baffling song order. but still some of the most astonishing music released this year, & there's very little doubt about that. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
