There's a Volume One to the Tone Tales also, simply called "Tone Tales from Tomorrow" (minus the Too bit). I haven't been able to track this one down myself, but it's out there. Other must-have chillout discs, IMHO: Woob "1194" CD (Instinct/Em:t) - Dubbed out ambient grooves with a tribal/world feel and bizarre spoken word interludes, this is out of print but well worth the search. Global Communication "Remotion" CD (Dedicated) - A collection of GCC remixes of everyone from Chapterhouse to Nav Katze, really beautiful record that captures GCC at their best. Guaranteed smooth landing with this one. Global Communication "Pentamerous Metamorphosis" (Dedicated) - GCC remixes of Chapterhouse, a couple of the tracks are on the above CD. But this one's still worth having, I think it was reissued on Dedicated a yr, or so ago so it's not impossible to score! Journeyman "Mama 6" CD (NTone) - Prolly the best thing I know of that NTone's ever done, this one is stylistically all over the place and miles away from the "National Hijinx" album that he later did for NTone. Journeyman=Woob=Paul Frankland, one and the same. Biosphere "Substrata" CD (Errr? Can't remember!) - Cold chilly Artic ambience, this one's about as solemn and stoic as they get. Surprisingly warm underneath it all, somebody released this domestically a year or two ago so it's easily had. There are others, these are just the ones off the top of my dome that always get play around my place.

Depends on what you mean by "available." I don't think this was ever released commercially, apparently it was some kind of promo giveaway deal for Warp's club night. Distributors and shops began asking for it to sell, Warp wanted to release, and apparently PC and Kev (Food) weren't happy enough with it to officially put it out (that's the story I've heard, at least). Hence the Blech II disc, which is longer, more complex, and the better of the two. Pedro and David H. - I have a tape dub of Blech I, not good enough to CDR, but if you still really wanna hear it drop me an email and we can sort out some kind of tape trade, would be glad to dub you a copy since it's not really commercially available. Yes i had that one as well. Unfortunately a friend borrowed it and it hasnt been seen since. Lots of early klf, primal scream, sueno latino, & orb (to name a few) snippets drift in and out of the Lotus Chill Out mix. Lotus is David Applegate who runs the Atlantis Records shop. He also produces some excellent droney electronica (which he releases on limited cdrs) & insturmental trip-hop hop as part of The Wad Squad who have one or two limited 12"s out. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Coldcut / DJ Food mix CD's... -Journeys by DJ : 70 Minutes of Madness (mixed by Jon More/Matt Black/Strictly Kev/P.C). Tricky to find, but we're working on a re-issue for Ninja's 10th anniversary next year. No guarantees but we're trying. If not they'll cook up another classic mix. -ColdKrushCuts (disc 1 mixed by Jon More/Matt Black/Strictly Kev/P.C) -Tone Tales 1 (it's been awhile, but if memory serves...it was Jon More/Matt Black) -Tone Tales 2 (as above) -Stone Chilled Groove (More/Black/Strictly/P.C) -Blech 2 (Strictly Kev/P.C) -Night Before The Morning After : Ninja Tune/Tribal split CD mix that was given away with DJ Magazine (More/Black presumably, but I've lost the original magazine with the credits) ...I could be wrong on the Tone Tales. I don't have them in front of me. Of course there is also numerous 'Solid Steel' mix tapes that circulate quite heavily. Basically when it says 'mixed' (as in DJ not remix) by Coldcut it's usually More/Black/Strictly/P.C (with some early exceptions). 'Produced' by Coldcut is More/Black with collaborators. DJ mixes by DJ Food are Strictly/P.C. Produced by DJ Food can be a combo of any of the above. Except for the record which we're putting out in February which is Strictly/P.C with collaborations with Ken Nordine and Bundy Brown....confused yet? Oh...and I would say best 'modern' ambient record would have to go to Spacetime Continuum 'Sea Biscuit'. Pressure is just such a classic tune, and then the rest of it is guaranteed to have me asleep in about 15 minutes. A permanant bed-side CD. Coming in 2 & 3 would be Global Com. 76:14, and Namlook/Hawtin 'From Within'. This is strictly based on records guaranteed to put me to sleep no matter how fucked a day. Reich's 'Music for 18 Musicians' and Riley's 'Rainbow in Curved Air' win in the 'older ambient' category. Jeff

To rekindle this thread, I want to add that I've recently bought a really excellent triple CD pack titled MLO : Plastic Apple. The first disc is "DJ Food's Sonic Soup", the 2nd disc is remixes by heavyweights incl. Dave Angel, T Power, Claude Young, Boymerang, Manasseh etc. Disc 3 contains the MLO originals. It came out in '96 on Mo's Music Machine / Aura Surround Sounds (never heard of either label?) Can somebody help with further info on this release? I love it but there's not too much by way of help on the cover - who were the original MLO members?
