Hey all, Im putting together a mix of mp3s for a party, and in order for me to able to fit them all on 1 CD, Im editing them all down to smaller sizes. The average track lasts about 6 minutes, but using Quicktime 4.0 I open up the tracks, and just select the middle parts of the track, skipping the intro and outros so the song cuts in and cuts out perfectly on the correct beat, and get them down the the best 4 mins or so of each track. I like doing it this way, because using QuickTime Player, I dont have to decompress the mp3s, It just saves the part I want -- HOWEVER.. It doesnt open all of the files for some reason, so my QUESTION IS: Is there another way to edit mp3s this way (simple start/stop points, no DSP) so my edits are lossless? If I open them in SoundEdit , it wants to AIFF them, meaning Id have to re-compress them when I was done - bad, bad, bad. any help on this one? While Im at it, is there any way to set the volume level in this fashion? if not Ill have to run them thru a compressor/limiter, since the wide variety of mp3s have different volume levels, and Im afraid of turning it up on a quiet song, only to have a loud one that plays next blast my listeners into deafness.
