Usually I don't ask questions like this, but just out of curiosity: what do people think of Isolee? Any fans around here? I always read stellar reviews of their stuff, but with the exception of a few tracks, I haven't really gone crazy for them... I listened to the new 2xLP the other day in a record store, and just didn't dig it at all. Opinions? i wholeheartedly agree, you constantly hear grea stuff about them, i know in chicago that's half of what i hear every time a music discussion comes up. i haven't been overly impressed with their stuff either. my $.02 craig.

I love Isolee. The trick is to be both a house head and an idm geek. He is a top notch sound designer who can work with rigid house structures or more liberal beat scenarios. He's also got the dub thing happening a little bit, but unlike a lot of the German producers, that's not the only tool in his box. I'm a big fan of the new LP. I think it represents some of his best work to date, although Playhouse 18 is still my favorite. bbn PS: Ricardo Villalobos is a winner again with Perlon 17 - two great tracks! _______________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I haven't heard the "Rest" album yet, but weren't most of the tracks on his 12"s? He has some excellent ones, and some not quite as excellent ones. I would recall Isolee, perhaps not so much musically, but theoretically, to Ifach, which was quirky, unexpected tech-house that some people went wild for and others didn't. Isolee definitely has a unique and fresh sound, and some fresh sounds work and some don't. For me, his certainly does. Especially "Beau Mot Plage". Yikes! Isn't Ricardo Villalobos the name of a famous classical composer? I was listening to the midnight-five a.m. classical show on my local NPR branch the other night, and they mentioned a composition by Villalobos. My first thought was, "Wow, Perlon's really branching out." Then, my second thought was something similar to "I'm an idiot." Haven't properly heard the LP yet (I listened to it in a shop but the employee was playing bwaaaaaargggh gut-rumbling jumble at a ridiculous volume and it drowned out this one and the new Arovane 12", why do they do that when it discourages people from buying?) - but their earlier 12"s on Playhouse and Classic are great. Check "Beau Mot Plage" - the original is good, the Heaven and Earth re-edit (dubbed-out fx) is best, the Freeform Five rmx. is so-so (noodly jazzy horns spoil it, but it's a crowd pleaser). "Beau Mot Plage" is prolly my favorite track by them so far (it's not on the LP), with the "Initiate" and "Raum Einz" 12"s coming in a close second. It has enough melody to appeal to your average punter, is usually sparse enough to catch people into more techy minimal stuff, and still the complex programming that somebody into idm/experimental music might get into. Works all around. ______________ Brock Phillips Motormouthmedia 2525 Hyperion Ave. Suite One Los Angeles, CA 90027 fon 323.662.3865 fax 323.662.3844

hi ben, thanx for the info...yea, a-musik (www.a-musik.com) or go right to the catalog: www.a-musik.com/bustible/artists (for example)a.html or /labelss.html ... after 6 years of ordering @hadwax i just realized that a-musik is better...not only are they cheaper (like many other german recordstores where u often get up to 15% discount after ur first personal purchase) but also more helpful...they order records for u (which hardwax never does), they put records aside if u want and so on....and their packets are better packed!...if u order within germany they ship for free if ur order is over 200 DM (hardwax 300 DM)...their shipping costs if ur order isn't over 200 is ,i think, just 7 DM, hardwax 12 DM...u also might have noticed that many records are getting more and more expensive @ hardwax...@a-musik almost all 12" are 15 DM (some even less)....us 12" usually cost 20DM @hardwax now!....some examples: the gimmik lp on WI is 18 @ a-musik and 26 @ hardwax...suction 7" are 13 or more @ hardwax, and just 9.5 @ a-musik...the kid606/remote viewer pic 7" costs 17 @hardwax, while a-musik charged 13 i think....markant records sometimes just cost 17DM @a-musik whereas they always cost 26 @ hardwax!!! there are many more price differences...a-musik is a real small store so they don't neccessarily have as much records as hardwax but as i said, they'll order them for u...ifu like obscure and small labels they're way better...they have many records which were considered to be deleted by everybody....check'em!!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Ben Nevile <studionze@yahoo.ca> To: Moritz Wahala <nisha-mo@01019freenet.de> Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2000 9:23 PM Subject: Re: [idm] isolee
