TMC was never a real "group", it was more of a 4AD (and friends) studio super-group led by label-head Ivo. The project was discontinued after the third (and weakest, IMO) album "Blood". However, Ivo helmed a similar project called The Hope Blister that released quite a nice album last yeat called "...smiles ok". the hope blister album is full of stunning tracks. Their versions of "spider and i" (eno...or roxy music with eno?) and sylvian's "let the happiness in" are absolutely fantastic! But i have to admit: Dagger (Slowdive) is the best one. There is a special Hope Blister CD-only release by the way with alternative versions from "...smiles ok". Speaking of This Mortal Coil, I know that one of the original members, Gordon Sharp, is himself very involved in the, erm, 'intelligent' music scene. Actually, he's more into Doomcore and Phuturecore stuff, but I know Somatic Response just remixed a couple of his tracks. Good stuff! Not trying to be a "sarcastic hipster", but I'm wondering. I associate doomcore with deep guttural gabber kickdrums at 120-150 BPM. Phuturecore I've never heard of and I doubt it exists. Unless you're talking about something like Cavage or Widerstand, kind of scary death future stuff? <<P.S. -- Anyone here know much of the hard/apocalyptic scary European underground music scene?>> You mean the underground Paris scene whose participants live in tunnels and squattings and whose outlaw parties consist of 3 hour noize and ambient sets followed by brutal breakcore and psychadelics? Yeah I know that one. :) In fact, Objection to Procedure issue 2 will have a feature on the specifics of this scene. ---The Objector has spoken.--- "The goal of any writer is to acknowledge the numeric, programmed basis of his mind, and then supercede it. Gordon Sharp started out singing for Cindytalk in the early 80's [also on 4AD], then sang on the 3 This Mortal Coil LPs. He was living in London up until about 4-5 years ago, when he and his wife made the move to good old Columbus, OH [yo] and got involved with some of the ele_mental and active_not_passive events. As Bambule Commando, his eclectic mix of d'n'b, electro, and experimental sounds graced our scene for a while. Concurrently he was involved with the Zhark label and Somatic Responses and brought the UK's "electromash" sound, essentially electroacoustical mayhem. It could be best exemplified in more accessable form as Autechre's Second Bad Vilbel at 78rpm, with elements of dark drum&bass and extreme noise. Some of the stuff he's played and created could quite possibly make your eardrums bleed. Sadly, he left a few months ago for Philadelphia. We miss him. He's formed deep connections between Zhark, RRR, and Somatic Responses, and if you're looking something truly unique, combining the darkest elements of electro, d'n'b, industrial, noise, and experimental/idm sounds, track his stuff down.. +odd -- Todd Sines icq: 11117580 SCALE:form | image | sound http://www.scalestudio.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
