People have been briefly mentioning the drug dxm lately, and I also was a user. I tried it 7 times. A few times on the first plateau (just like a bottle) and with some pot, and twice on the third plateau (three full bottles of that shit!).. the second time i did that much was at a john zorn concert and i had to leave because i vomited it all up. I still tripped really hard and had a crazy subway ride home.. that was almost a year ago. and now when i think about cough syrup i just get sick to my stomach. I dont think i could do it again until I forget what the effects are or what it tastes like. At the time i was doing it, those experiences were just amazing... Hearing chiastic slide and not being able to figure out where it was coming from.. not being able to realize that someone created it. not going to mention all the shit that about my trips except that at the time they seemed like the most special thing in the world. But now when i think about how it felt to be on dxm i feel like i just couldnt handle feeling that way now. I dont know what i would do... jesus that s scarry that you'd ruin a john zorn concert for yourself by doing dm... it always fucked sounds up beyond recognition for me... i used to do it long before people had invented this "plateau" system and back then we called it "Robo" (for Robitussin of course). I figure I probably drank well over 2 gallons of that swill before I finally couldn't stomach the taste anymore, it took me like five years before i could even eat cherry jolly ranchers anymore. i did used to love to go out and dance while robing, but my favorite robo tracks were "The Power" by SNAP, "One of These Days" by Pink Floyd and the entirety of "Chill Out" by the KLF. but seriously, kids, that shit is bad for you. i am pretty sure it did permanent damage to my nerves, my hands shake for no reason alot of the time and it started during my Robo period. I'm not doing that, either. I haven't condemned anyone for their life-style choices. I could harp on about the drugs I take just as well as anyone else, and how sitting in my friend's room at uni, stoned off my tits, and listening to him play guitar is as rewarding an experience as jumping up and down like a loon at a sweaty concert. While this whole thing is pretty much way off topic, DXM has probably been one the biggest influences on my music (aside from Autechre hehehe ;) I have tripped on dex maybe 40 or 50 times, I used to do it at least once a week, but recently I haven't used in months... regarding the throwing up/nasty taste thing.... the last time I dexed I had a bottle of robotussin and a hip flask of bacardi, and shotted the whole lot (half half in shot glasses) within about half an hour.... alcohol is a great potentiator to dxm, but that was just too much... every time I even THINK of that evil mixture I just about vomit. i do have some wonderful memories of lying in the middle of a forest floating in and out my body during an ambient/trance show, and of course the fantastic birdsong (we used to just spend the whole day lying under a tree drinking back the buckleys and smoking up) ah well, I've gone on a bit, but its so rarely you find a group with such a high concentration of dxm (ex)users to talk to... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've had tonnes of transcendal experiences with DXM, it's hands down my favourite drug. I can't see why people here just say smoke more weed. First, I see the highs (lows?) as very different, and really, there's just no comparison between 800mg DXM and smoking 3 grams of weed. I like it so much I named one of my projects after it, check out my sig, please. Now, on a more IDM slant, there are certain albums that are just incredible for that kind of dissociative experience. with all due respect... because the list that i signed up for is about music. you tried to associate dxm, bm, s&m, t&a, h2o, or whatever this drug is to music yesterday in one of your 13 posts. However, there was not the influx of what-religious-figured-stapled-to-the-ceiling-sent-sugarplumb-fairies-down-t o-seduce-me-whilst-listening-to-SAWII-and-inhaling-whipped-cream posts to share these epiphanies. Instead, it seems to be leaning towards simply an old tired thread of drug experiences. The point of my little "i'm taking this off list" message was to somehow inspire the unwashed masses of habitual bitches to take their problems with me OFF LIST. Unfortunately it was obscured by the reek of wells' testosterone-laden look how much better of a person I am for clogging up the list more than that guy who was defending the DXM conversation. I think I speak for several people when I say that my post simply defended other people's conversations while yours simply bitched and clogged up the list. and so i make sure i'm not clogging up the list anymore, please refrain (that means everybody) from sending personal attacks towards me TO THE WHOLE list. Unless you're that interesting in proving how large your intellectual phallus is. ok, I feel real old now...what the hell is DMX? are you talking about over the counter cough syrup? Not insulting anyone here for your drugs of choice or anything, but it sounds like their is some serious new drug culture here..plateaux what's that about? What's the active ingrediant? I thought alcohol was the major intoxicant in most cough syrup.... just curious, cause to old fogeys like myself, the whole things sounds a little like that smokin nutmeg theory back in the 70s... -phil ----------

What do you all want to know about it? Ask me off list (as it's not IDM pertinent). I'm a PhD candidate in neuroscience/pharmacology. Biochemically, it acts at the same site as PCP and ketamine, i.e. the PCP2 internal binding site of the NMDA receptor. So, indeed it is a dissociative. Seriously though, DXM is dextro-sa-sa-sa-something or other. It's a dissassoiciative much like ketamine.
