On a less ratty note...is anyone going to the Futuresonic festival in Manchester (UK) on the 8th June? I'm considering it, but stay the hell away from me with that cough syrup...I'm not that hardcore. Dare say I'll be going, particularly since it's 30 seconds walk from where I work... Sunday's Jim O'Rourke event there (the Contact) was interesting in several ways. can anyone reccomend any spastic beat stuff. along the lines of bodgan, mike p, jega, goodiepal, lsr etc. the higher the rate of spasticity the better. i'm looking for really bleepy beaty stuff.. a bit dnb but obviously so derranged that it bears no resmembalence to it's boring origins. to really push the taste barriers as far as they will go i want the stephen hawkings of idm... *i am braced for a flaming* i probab;ly said all that to be ///contoversial// but also there really is no other way to describe it??!!??!!? ps::::: anyone go to futuresonic<00>?? any thoughts? personally i thought it was a complete smables, there were some good points, but basically it was badly organised and quite spastic, in a bad sense,. apache61 is cool tho. anyone know of her?? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I went on the Friday evening, primarily to see Scion/Tikiman and Merzbow. Scion were wonderful, just as good as I'd hoped. One remarkable thing is that neither of them nodded their head once, in contrast to the normal practise of your laptop-y types. When Tikiman appeared, one of Scion played some vinyl, using the second disc for dub effects, and the other operated more effects (I think). Whilst an eager consumer of BC/CR products, I'd been wary of Rhythm & Sound etc. but that will change now. As for Merzbow, I only have a few samples of his prolific output, but was very keen to see him. Of course he just sat at his laptop but you could see him getting into it, with mousepad heroics. The weird thing was that it all became somehow soothing after a while, in spite of the objectively harsh quality of the sounds. Re. organisation - yes it seems to have been a mess but the things I wanted to see worked. Before Scion started I "experienced" some of the Fat Cat-organised people in the foyer, with their noise turntable antics etc. Hmm.
