the remix he did on telex' "i don't like music" is totally brilliant. artist: telex title: i don't like music format: cd track 7: i don't like music (ian o'brien mix) 9.09 this remix album is split into two vinyl releases, so get the right one (or get both) if you buy vinyl. hs ______________________________________________________ our future has never been so frightening: http://www.warprecords.com/warp/ography/single/WAP105/

Ferox? I've been expecting a second cd from him. Ian O'Brien - Desert Scores (Ferox) was one of my favorite lps for a long time. He is brilliant! I saw a remix of his on some label recently, I think it may have been the Source label. I'll try and find out the artist. It seems he has just been remixing alot of people. He did contribute one track to the last Freezone comp. Oh and if anyone out there cares, the Brother from Another Planet 12" (7th City) just got reissued. For the most part it's Claude Young, but there is one track where Ian O'Brien and Claude Young collaborate. I've been kind of expecting to see them collaborate more in the future, because they have done a remix together on the first Ferox comp. Adventures in Techno Soul and the track they did on 7th City. I also so remember there was a track called Joe 90 (or something like that) on the Dj Kicks - Claude Young. Hopefully, he will start releasing stuff soon. Indeed there is : it's the opening track to Claude Young's DJ-Kicks on !K7 - More Claude Young than Ian O'Brien-y sounding to my ears, though. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But I do love The Man From Del Monte kind of Ian O'B. jazzy feel. I *

Ian O'Brien i a favorite producer of mine as well but, unfortunately he is extremely overdue for another album release. Lately Ian has been doing the remix thing. Here are a few of his more recent mixes: . Telex: I Dont Like Music/Ian O'Brien remix (SSR) . Rei Harakami: On/Ian O'Brien mix (Sublime) . Fusion: Cube of the Blues/Ian O'Brien Rework (Ferox) . Lisa Stansfield: The Line/Ian O'Brien's Benfleet mix (D.Disco) Plus recent comp appeareances on: . Endlessnessism comp 2xcd/4x12" (Dot) . Freezone 5 comp 2xcd/5x12" (SSR) The last legitimate Ian O'Brien eps were the two Djenga releases on Tag: . Djenga: Djengastyle #1 12" (Tag) . Djenga: Djengastyle #2 12" (Tag) I once heard a rumor that these two eps were going to be compiled onto one cd with a few new tracks but i havent heard anything more about it.

I agree that the reissued Brother From Another Planet 12" is essential. It's my favorite Claude Young release to date.

Regarding the Young/O'Brien track on the aforementioned 7th City ep, it is actually the same track as the one on the Claude Young DJ Kicks release (even though the track title is different). There were also a few other O'Brien/Young collaborative releases back in 96 on the Re:verb & Pentagon labels under the guises Video Kids, Spy Satellite, and Memory Tree. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I wish he would do a little more variety, well basically some more melodic techno. His track "Impolite to Refuse" on the Detroit - The Third Wave comp (Astralwerks) was really great. And I really liked his lp for Elypsia. With regards to Ian O'Brien - Desert Scores (Ferox) everyone on this list should own this because it's an incredible release. It was definitely one of the finest electronic releases of 1997.

I remember you mentioning this a few years ago. I started collecting alot of Ian O'Brien but never got any of those. I assume this stuff is all out of print. It would be great if some of this stuff were compiled on a compilation. I am kind of hoping the Deepart/Andihart stuff will be. I didn't want to have to start doing a bunch of international orders to get this stuff. Cheers _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I recently got a cd called Endlessnessism (which btw is awesome) and I heard a track done by Ian O'Brien. The track was really good. Does anyone know if that track is indicative of his style ? Also, I remember someone posting a discography of Ian O'brien; can that be re-posted ? Thanks _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ian's track on the Endlessnessism reminds me more of his Desert Scores album from back in '96-97. His more recent album, Galactic Days, as well as most of his 12" releases, have more of percussive floor-friendly feel whereas Desert Scores has more of a jazzy idm/listening music sound to it. Despiter the differences in style, all O'Brien releases are recommended. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Ian O'Brien is featured on the 'Future Sound of Jazz Volume 6' compilation (Compost Records) cd. The (previously unreleased) track is called "Moonlight". I'm going to comment on this title very soon. From the sounds of it, a free flowing (electronic) jazz style is spread evenly throughout this disc. Also available as a 3-LP set + bonus track.
