okay, im not trying to start any flame wars or insult anyone, but... can someone please explain to me, or at least tell me, what it is exactly that makes boards of canada so great? personally, i didnt think their album on warp was all that special. ive got a cdr of twoism and it isnt that great either**in my opinion**. i mean the album sounded good but i wasnt rolling on the floor with my headphones pressed against my ears screaming omygawd.... not to say i cant appreciate such music. i listen to all sorts of stuff ranging from worm interface and drop beat to svek and trelik... anyway i was just curious. thnx. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "black is a bright light on a dark day" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I like Boards of Canada because they help me remember being in first grade. I was very happy then. Sometimes, when I'm listening to BOC, I can feel things I haven't felt since I was a little kid. To me, BOC is a fantastic example of the power of music. Jamie

I think this is because they cleverly use (or reproduce) the synth sounds and harmonies used in 70s films and documentaries, particularly american ones. We were all (most of us) children in the 70s hence the effect of reminiscence. Easy but very clever.

...particularly if, when you were a kid, you spent many a cold winter morning watching those kitschy 70s/80s tv shows that inspired their name and sound: would any canadians out there care to reminisce about that old classic, ~hinterland who's who~ ?? ("the quiet and swift peregrine falcon...") damn, every time i play ~roygbiv~, it's like i'm hearing the theme to "what will they think of next" RJ
