I went to 'my local' record shop (Dragon Disc in Camden) and heard a most unbelievable remix of Leftfield's 'Phat Planet' by Dave Clarke. Wow, yeah. It's not really IDM, strictly speaking, but it sounds, well, PHAT -- big schmoogy hard basslines slipping all over the place, wikked breakbeats, jump back kiss myself, it makes me want to shake my booty. :p Anyway, if anyone is familiar with this record, could they recommend sounds with a similar feel? Drum and bass with big farty basslines isn't quite enough: it needs to have that certain qu'elle heure est-il :p that I can't be bothered to write down but we all know what it is. Thanks mak p.s. -- i bought a record offa worm interface by 'himuro' (i think, if i read the label right). everyone clap. wa-hey! i'm making progress! it's good -- not mind-blowing -- sorta reminds me of buckfunk 3000. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

yes, is it nice when the record knows what time it is. ;) i'd hafta say check out meat beat manifesto. more precisely, "radio babylon"/"helter skelter" or jack's last album, _actual sounds & voices_. the album isn't all as you described, but it does have four of the tightest tracks i've ever heard, all right next to each other, in just this style. on a related note... dumb record i've been digging lately: susumu yokota, "future memory" * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# it's only in uncertainty/that we're naked and alive icq:5562209

The new Leftfield single, Afrika Shox, is pretty good if you like Kraftwerk/Bambaataa-style electro. It is better than his recent collaboration with Westbam. The Jedi Knights remix is a good return to their retro sound, and the Dave Clarke mix of another track Phat Planet is a good chunky electro mix of a techno-house cut. Also recommended in the electro vein is the new Luke Slater single All Exhale. CT
