if "sophistication and human element..." is just IDMspeak for "near-complete lack of originality and obvious desire to duplicate exactly every move autechre ever made," you just might be right. don't get me wrong, the guy's got skills; i just wonder if he has an imagination. i have this feeling that ten years from now all of the socal crew will be saying something along the lines of, "oh, man - the _new_ stuff alex is working on (i mean the stuff that will be on the 6th album, on warp, not the other 5 albums or 9 12"s) is just amazing - totally original, _this_ is the shit." possibly unrelated: i'm _really_ starting to appreciate fx randomiz. I wasn't going to reply to the original post but after seeing the below response I have decided to. These postings hyping lex can only hurt him. One of the reasons people were displeased with the release on orange is that people made it out to be the best thing since sliced cheese. When people bought the record it did not live up to that. It may have been a very fine release but since it did not live up to expectations people saw it in a different light. by proclaiming lex to be the next big thing you (you referring to everyone that keeps hyping this kid) are setting him up for failure. When the release comes out on MAS people will tear it apart because it did not live up to claims made. Even if the record is great it will not be perceived as such because people's ecpectations cannot be matched. want to help lex? review his work and do not make wild claims. That is do not make biased statements and treat the work as you would treat anyone elses. if you cannot do that then do not review it. of course this is just idm centric. There is a whole world out there who is not on the list who will buy the records based on their personal preference. just don't want to see anymore lex is god vs. lex isn't god posts. talk about music or something. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com On Thu, 22 Jul 1999, leg to the arm yeah leg-arm to the head :: :: wrote:

What took you so long? : ) The FX Randomiz album on A Musik is one of my favorite releases on the label. The perfect mix of melody, crunchy percussion, and experimental song structures. I'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming FX Randomiz ep on Sonig. And if you want a more experimental FX Randomiz sound, try his collaborative cd with Jan St Werner called "Slow." It was release on the Gefriem label back in 95. -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
