I definitely think so. Not in the mood for much esoteric dialectic right now, but since you asked the question, there's my off the cuff. I * np : eek-a-mouse : damn, this stuff is fun! All you dub / reggae people out there, if you haven't given this a spin, check him out.

Hmmm - I'd have to say that probably 80% of us on the list could be defined at some sort of "computer geek." I'm definately one. I spend loads of hours here at the computer... so many of my hobbies focus around it. I run my business from it (Website/Application Developer), I program and design on it, I compose/edit/master my music on it, I keep intouch with others with it (email) and I'm building some hobby Websites (samplesearch.com, remixworld.com) on it... Whew! Correlation... hmmm - to begin with, I think IDM is a silly name - for one, placing the term "intelligent" in a name is a joke - I get the same vibe when I see the word "Professional" - Secondly, most of the music we are into isn't really Dance Music - I tend to think that when I listen to Ae or Squarepusher, I groove my body, not really dance - maybe it should be TGM = Trippy Groove Music or AGM = Avant Groove Music or CEM = Cognitive Experimental Music or EEM = Experimental Exploratative Music yeah, so geeks...correlation... I think it is a correlation with people who strive for more - those who need DEPTH in their surroundings, those who thrive on Exploration - these people are ones who can't settle for top40 overplayed stuff - these people also like the empowerment and freedom the computer/Web can offer - geeks - IDM music freaks - most of us are both I feel. some would say just being on a mailing list at all makes you a computer geek.. much less being involved in it. geeks away! -=aaron <~~ is a member of the midiots.. how geektacular is that? lol goddammit I never have anything idm related to say.. it's not like I don't feel bad about that, actually I do feel guilty.. I'm not without guilt.. do you wankers even read this crap? ok, idm idm idm.. well I just got a quasimidi polymorph.. wow.. what've I been missing!!! ((has spent the last 3 years using cakewalk to sequence his soundcard and kurzweil pc88)) I've learned alot with sequencing.. haven't been able to get a good recording done yet.. I refuse to post any of my room recordings to mp3.com. When I post, I want it to be proffessional.. I want people to have the full effect, not a misrepresentation. I know many of you must have played with hammerhead at one time or another. I've made a few sessions I did on hammerhead into mp3's. They're a little more repetetive than I'd like them to be ((hammerhead doesn't give you very much compositional liberty)) but they are good for a kick now and then. I took them off of mp3.com because I'm planning on replacing them with better mp3.'s. Anybody else here have some hammerhead session mp3's hanging around on their HDD? I'd love to trade. Hey that's almost idm related.... I guess =aarno
