Alright, I'm planning to make a sort of best of idm compilation for myself, but so far I've got like maybe 6 tracks: 01. Plod - Markkinal 02. Autechre - Silverside 03. Link - Arcadian 04. Plaid - Undoneson 05. Polygon Window - Supremacy II 06. Sun Electric - Quaila I was wondering if people on the list would suggest some of their favourite idm tracks of all time that I can add. I know this is like the 'songs that you don't want to share with anyone' thread. I even have a cheesy title for it 'This is... IDM' like those bad 'This is... XXX' compilation from Beechwood. If you suggest a track, please also list the album its from. AtL-5

Four of my favorite"IDM" tracks (at this present moment) are: 1. Autechre "Kalpol Introl" (Incunabula, Warp) 2. Autechre "TearTear" (Amber, Warp) 3. Aphex Twin "Donkey Rhubarb" (Donkey Rhubarb, Warp) 4. Aphex Twin "Pancake Lizard" (Donkey Rhubarb, Warp) And maybe 5, 6, and 7 (so warp doesn't get all the credit): 5. Caustic Window "Astroblaster" (Joyrex J5 and Compilation, Rephlex) 6. mu-Ziq "Brace Yourself (Remix)" (Brace Yourself, Astralwerks) 7. Luke Vibert "Slipped Disc" (Ninja Cuts 3: Funkungfusion, Ninja Tune) Ask again tomorrow for another 7 tracks. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY

A little off the topic... recently a friend asked me to make them a CDR to introduce them to the type of music I listen to. Below is what I made for them (remember this is an introduction and as such the choices I made are conservative ones). anyhow here it is: Tracklisting: 1. Heavy Planet - Hungry Ghost 2. Angel - Massive attack 3. Building steam with a grain of salt - DJ Shadow 4. Nautical Dub - Porter Ricks 5. Untitled Track - Muslimgauze (from remixs 3 track 1) 6. Full Moon - Phil Western 7. Enemy Haze - Two Lone Swordsman 8. The Number Song - Cut Chemist meets Shortkut 9. We Change the frequency - Two Lone Swordsman 10. Chase The Manhattan - The Black Dog 11. Jail of Freedom (jailtilsli) - remixed by Autechre - original by soft ballet -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com

I agree. Phil Western - the escapist (on map records) was one of my top ten releases of 1998. The album is very varied. But it all works. The music simply put has depth. Everyone should try and take a listen to the album. go to http://www.mapmusic.com/catalog.htm#escapist the above has the album in real audio. For those that do not know: Phil Western is DJ Philth (of Download, plateau and off and gone fame) -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com On Wed, 9 Jun 1999, -wmh- wrote:

likewise... there's a large body of work produced by Phil and his often times partner Dan Handraubur that I almost never hear mention of... they've produced music together for years here in Vancouver, including projects such as Off and Gone's Everest album on Harthouse (and an ep on Exist Dance) . they were pretty instrumental in the Vancouver live electronic scene... anyways, I'm going to be putting together an all local mixed cd pretty soon which'll probably have a lot of stuff from these two... might want to check out Dan's releases as Mere Mortal also out on Map Records... Pilgrims of the Mind is also something to definitely keep an eye out for. His fulllength on Map is still on constant rotation a year later. http://www.mapmusic.com on a side note, anyone notice the breakbeats in the latest Bryan Adams release??? Come on, admit, you know you did..... well, that's Phil's doing. The latest project by Rob Halford of Judas Priest... also Phil's doing... gotta make a living I guess ;) cheers q ------------------------- quentin rogers http://www.teamlounge.com syntext@teamlounge.com

wow, that's amazing. i didn't know bryan adams had some breakbeats up in that. what the heck is going on thesedays? i tune out for two seconds and next thing i know phil collins is duetting with grandmaster flash, and john lydon is appearing on some techno album... oh, wait, that already happened. musicians in the house: who's your choice of a thoroughly non-IDM artist to remix, or better yet, collaborate with? bonus points for total lack of IDM cred, i.e. admitting that you'd like a crack at the titanic song with some massive amen breaks or some microtonal static stuff. i call tom waits. failing that, slick rick. or humpty hump. incoherently, r o b ! np- NPR. it's easier to write to mahler than autechre. sorry.
