I was just listening to Logical Progression Volume 1 today and I got to thinking, where the hell did music like this go to? I bought the disc right at the beginning of my electronic music listening career so I don't think I truly appreciated it back then. Volume 2 was pretty good, but it wasn't as "space-age" sounding as the first. Are any of the later Volumes or Progression Sessions any good? Are there any other artists today that I should check out? Well, you could always give the new (or old) Lamb album, 'Fear of Fours', a go, although admittedly their d&b stylings take on many other influences. Then there's Solar X's 'Pretty Little Automatic' on Worm Interface, although that's more along the lines of Aphex Twin's Girl/Boy style d&b. I don't go for a whole lot of jungle/d&b, although I'm always partial to a bit of A Guy Called Gerald -- he has a new album just around the corner. I think the problem with Wormhole is that the songs have no real identity of their own. The whole album sounds interchangable.....as if just minute variations on the same theme. Well Tom, my first question do you is are you buying vinyl? If you are only waiting around for stuff to be compiled or go to cd than I can sort of see where you might say something like that. There has been ALOT of great drum n bass 12"s to come out this year! But not alot of great comps on CD. Did you buy chance hear... Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Locust Remix (Prototype) Fortran - Place To Be/Sardines (Metro) Ram Trilogy part 2 - Mind Overload (Ram) Dj Krust - True Stories Decorum - All Mighty/Contrax (Lifin Spirits) Test Records (I like all of them except for #4) actually the list can go and on.... Alot of really good stuff came out on Moving Shadow! The Dom & Roland - Industry lp for example With regard to Wormhole, it's good but I really like all the other Virus 12"s more. If you are in (or near) a city that get's alot of drum n bass djs touring, go check out some of them. I've recently seen Fierce, Rob Playford, Dylan & Facs, DJ Teebee in the last few weeks and I can tell you the dubplates I heard are awesome!! My problem is finding "Intelligent" IDM, that ACTUALLY breaks new ground. I have a friend that buys just about everything from all those CDR labels,and other labels etc. Most of the stuff he is playing for me is really blah. I mean REALLY BLAH. I can't remember the last IDM release that got me really excited.
