LACKLUSTER Container FOC350 (LP) / FOC350CD UPC: 1753-32936-2 Well here it is, the first long player from the Focus family! Lackluster (Esa Ruoho) was the first one to get his album ready, mainly due to some of these tracks being written well over a year ago. And he is eager to make sure he deceived no one, by stating exactly when each track was made. Only one of the two tracks have been released on Focus so far, Starcell UK (FOC348) kicked off the first release as part of the 'Do You See' sampler and Cull Streak was released on Esa's first very own single (FOC349). Whilst Lackluster is a little unsure as to whether you will agree with us, we believe that you can almost taste the innocence in his music. Esa really has done what he does best, and gently handed over an album of pure quality. It's layered with subtle melodies and hints of sentiment add that to his soft yet unique rhythms and what you are left with is a work of art. Track Listing 1. Starcell UK (1998) 2. Catch 22 (1999) 3. Thor's Magic Bathtub (1997) 4. Pillow (1997) 5. So Short (1998) 6. Trull Cakes (1999) 7. Grind (1997) 8. Bothersome (1999) 9. The Weakend State (1998) 10.Clinique (1999) 11.Krhm (1999) 12.Me me me me me me (1999) 13.Dooba (1998) 14.Cull Streak (1999) 15.20333 (1999) press "Haunted by the ghosts of prime early Nineties ambient techno (A.R.T./B12), Lackluster crafts the kind of intricate electronic ambience that dances majestically on asteroid belts while you scratch your head and wonder how come such nostalgia sounds so contemporary. Elegiac stuff from Finland". (Muzik 5/5) "Lackluster featured on the recent sampler ep form Focus. This release picks up where the last left off, all dreamy electronics and chunky beats. Of the four on offer, two of the tracks are brand new to this release (the other two having appeared in limited quantities in his native Finland). 'Sundial Jam' features airy keyboards over dark basstones, growing with repeated listening. 'Cull Streak' the other new track, is a downtempo, contemplative piece, pure mood music".
