wow... the new mika vainio is absolutely fucking stunning. the guy had told
me at aquarius that it was very "pretty", which seemed to be the last
adjective i'd ever find to use for vainio. and while i still don't think
i'd describe it that way, there are some incredibly beautiful & serene
moments within it.
i'm not going to go into a deep description, because i've only been through
one listen so far, but at this juncture i am inclined to say that it may
well alter my ideas of that *that* kind of music (eg, difficult,
non-beat-oriented, not-exactly-ambient, on a label like Touch or somesuch)
can be.
(on a related note... for all the noiseniks out there, aquarius in SF has
copies in stock of a very limited pan_sonic/charlemagne palestine
collaboration, as well as noto's quite limited "empty garden" cd...)
