a change of style is right! "present" was one of my favorite idm albums of 1996, and i can honestly say that "via nostra" SUCKS. the first to track are all right, but the rest of the album is a huge disappointment! one track is the most pathetic attempt at dub i'v ever heard. basically, the flaws of this album are: the melodies/songwriting are weak and the production/soundz are cheasy. let's hope s.u. get back on track for the next lp -adrien nate wrote:

I have to completely disagree with this. While unconventional perhaps by SE standards, I would hardly call the melodies weak and the production/ sounds cheezy. I think both are very strong. If you have a fixed mindframe about how SE should sound then do not get this record. If you want to have a fun hour of listening and like a Plaid or Orb type sound, get this record. I don't like to even compare this release to Plaid or Orb, as it is not derivative at all, but that's the best example I can come up with right now. I really liked the dub track. Perhaps Via Nostra has a similarity to the TLS album Stay Down in that it has it's own quirky sound that is playful at times, but does not sound like anything out right now. For me it is these types of records that I don't 'figure out' right away that keep my attention over the long haul... all MHO Nate On Mon, 19 Apr 1999, Adrien Artzt wrote:

I wouldnt say it sucked, but it did kick me in the gut the first time I heard it.. As a hardcore SE fan it took a few listens to get the breathing going again, and while I still dont think its brilliant I.....'accept' it.. :) Now I know how the metalheads felt when Metallica cut their hair... e Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas

urrgghh...some of the drum machine sounds are just plain wack

i'm all for artists changing and growing, trying new things (if afx sounded the same way now as he did in 94 i would't give him the time of day!). most of us aren't the same people we were 2 years ago, but i really believe they fell short on 'via..' and not short of their previous sound but short of a good record

interesting comparison as i feel the orb slipped as well. after 'pomme fritz' there was something missing from the orb's output, their tracks didn't quite gel (words escape me) anymore. and (plaid's) 'not for threes' the production is a little dry for my taste on that lp (like via nostra) for my taste, plus i skip over half the songs.

o.k., how do i get some of what you're on?

well that's a good attitude. often the albums that are hard to get into at first are the most rewarding over time now, knowing that i like 'present' a lot can anyone recommend thomas fehlmann's 'flowing..'? peace-adrien _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Wow. I got into the orb after Pomme Fritz and i feel that most of the stuff before is too Refined, too clearly (sildly poppy) "Dance music" and not the dubby and noise-filled orb i loved on "Orbus." I personally think that they might have slipped a little on "Orblivion" had thier beats not been so great. That said, i was rather disappointed with U.F.Off! The remix of Der Gute Berg (CD2)is my highpoint.

A friend sent me some soundclips a while back, and it greatly reminded me of the Solid Doctor's "How About Some Ether" _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/ The world's most complete Pork Recordings/Fila Brazillia site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

Alright, I've been looking to get this disc for a while, but never got around to getting it. But now since some of don't like this disc 'Via Nostra', I have a resolution for you. Trade me your copy, I have quite a few discs I can afford to let go. E-mail me if you want to trade your copy. AtL-5

Funny, after the live ambient album and Present I almost wrote off Sun Electric. I think Via Nostra represents a return to form. I was listening to it in the car yesterday, and the more listen, the more I like. Che
