can anybody fill me in on an artist known simply as D, recording for the Soul Static Sound label? there is a To Rococo Rot mini-lp out right now, which is apparently a collaboration with this artist. since TRR have only bored me in the past, i'm guessing it's D i need to be looking into. any leads appreciated... sc

Couldn't this be Derrick Carter? Although a TRR/DC connection seems a bit weak, he did record the first remix 12" for the latest Tortoise album and they're at least peripherally involved with Soul Static... I'd give odds at about 40/60. .John.

Oops, forgot to provide one oh-so-vital link in the chain... Those Tortoise remixes were titled D's Winter Crazy Dub and D's Winter Outtake. .John.

no. it's a fellow named Darryl who had previously remixed Ui's "Match My Foot" seven-inch (and several other indie-esque projects since) for release on Soul Static Sound, his own label. the connections between Tortoise and SSS run MUCH deeper than peripheral involvement. Tortoise's (best) single, "Why We Fight"/"Whitewater" was released - and re-released - on SSS. SSS are also behind the first Designer 12" ("Vandal"/"Larson") by Casey Rice, another Tortoise affiliate and remixer ("Cobwebbed," on Rhythms, Resolutions and Clusters). mr. e. now playing: sublime- the infancy (sublime)

D is definitely a fellow named Darryl. Soul Static Sound is his label. He's already known for a remix of Ui's "Match My Foot" (among other indie-esque projects) released as a 7" on SSS. the Tortoise/D connection amounts to MUCH more than just peripheral involvement. SSS released - and re-released - Tortoise's (best) single, "Why We Fight"/"Whitewater," and the first Designer 12" ("Vandal"/"Larson") by Casey Rice, himself a Tortoise associate/remixer ("Cobwebbed" on Rhythms, Resolutions and Clusters). mr. e. now playing: sublime-the infancy (sublime) .John. > -----Original Message----- > From: idm-owner@hyperreal.org [mailto:idm-owner@hyperreal.org]On Behalf > Of Sean Cooper > Sent: Thursday, April 22, 1999 8:06 PM > To: idm@hyperreal.org > Subject: (idm) soul static sound's "d" > > > can anybody fill me in on an artist known simply as D, recording for the > Soul Static Sound label? there is a To Rococo Rot mini-lp out right now, > which is apparently a collaboration with this artist. since TRR have only > bored me in the past, i'm guessing it's D i need to be looking into. any > leads appreciated... > > sc > ----------------------- Headers -------------------------------- Return-Path: <idm-owner-Echophoria=aol.com@hyperreal.org> Received: from rly-yd04.mx.aol.com (rly-yd04.mail.aol.com [172.18.150.4]) by air-yd05.mx.aol.com (v59.4) with SMTP; Fri, 23 Apr 1999 08:12:35 -0400 Received: from hyperreal.org (taz.hyperreal.org [209.133.83.16]) by rly-yd04.mx.aol.com (8.8.8/8.8.5/AOL-4.0.0) with SMTP id IAA19036 for <Echophoria@aol.com>; Fri, 23 Apr 1999 08:12:35 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 635 invoked by uid 6000); 23 Apr 1999 12:12:28 -0000 Received: (qmail 628 invoked from network); 23 Apr 1999 12:12:26 -0000 Received: from www.allmusic.com (HELO amgmint1.allmusic.com) (12.27.0.25) by taz.hyperreal.org with SMTP; 23 Apr 1999 12:12:26 -0000 Received: from johbus ([12.27.0.111]) by amgmint1.allmusic.com (Post.Office MTA v3.5.3 release 223 ID# 0-59467U100L10S0V35) with SMTP id com; Fri, 23 Apr 1999 08:11:01 -0400 Reply-To: <johbus@allmusic.com> From: "John Bush" <johbus@allmusic.com> To: "Sean Cooper" <scooper@best.com>, <idm@hyperreal.org> Subject: RE: (idm) soul static sound's "d" Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1999 08:12:07 -0400 Message-ID: <000301be8d82$81e165d0$6f001b0c@johbus.allmusic.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook 8.5, Build 4.71.2173.0 In-Reply-To: <3.0.6.32.19990422170547.00a00d70@shell7.ba.best.com> X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Importance: Normal Sender: idm-owner@hyperreal.org Precedence: bulk >>
