Could someone tell me what time Panasonic come on? Is Trans-Am opening? I'm getting my frequencies mixed with a lot of people lately. Some said Panasonic opening for Trans Am, vice/versa. Any information/ reviews/insight would be much appreciated.. Pietro.

In Detroit, the ads for Friday's show (doors at 9PM) list Trans Am at the top and Pan sonic underneath (along with "Laddio Balacko Plus DJ On"). Anyone know what or who Laddio Balacko is? I get the feeling that I should be very, very afraid... .John. PS: Anyone know what's happened to Sean Cooper lately? Sean, are you still out there?...

Quick websearch uncovered the following. Apologies if the formatting sucks. Sounds a bit interesting to me... LADDIO BOLOCKO Laddio Bolocko consists of former members of post-rock legends Dazzling Killmen (Chicago), experimental noise band Panicsville (Austin / St. Louis), sax-injected Craw (NY) and Chalk 22 (NY). Note: Blake Fleming, the Dazzling Killmen drummer extraordinaire, can also boast active duty as Zeni Geva's (Tokyo) 'attack' drummer on their U.S. Freedom Bondage tour. In May/June 1998, Laddio Bolocko toured America, coast to coast (and back!), for 7 weeks. Laddio Bolocko is 4-piece instrumental band which formed in 1996. No sappy, macho front-men needed here to keep your limited attention spans from getting bored. Cross-pollinated rhythms, manic-prepared guitar work, jazz squall and tape loop madness are actively whipped into a relentless frenzy of sound. Comparisons to This Heat, Albert Ayler and CAN only scratches the surface of Laddio Bolocko's deep musical pockets. The band's structured music forms, written entirely by the group, give each musician an opportunity to freely 'express' themselves within each song. Greg

hmm. sounds like jazz. that's not an insult (i love jazz) but really, the only reason post-rock stuff doesn't get called jazz is because it usually doesn't involve horns. you'd think miles had taken care of that "if it's got a guitar it must be rock!" thing in the 70's. more-idm content: picked up the best of the orb yesterday- quite nice to have little fluffy clouds, toxygene and assassin all together on one disc. listening to the remixes disc now (somebody priced it like a single used disc!) which is pretty nice, not stunning. in the stunning category though: mad monkey record's enter the monkey. this thing is the bomb and a half. i can't recommend it highly enough. perfect variety: ambient, digital mischief, noise, cd-skipping, funky complex rhythms and more. every track has its own distinct feel, but they somehow give each other a context like no other label sampler i've ever heard. great efforts by a number of listmembers if i'm not mistaken. you owe it to yourself to pick up this record, and peep the full review in grooves #2 (plug plug). -rob

It's spelled Laddio Bolocko- they have released a couple of CDs on the Hungarian label. Their drummer is incredible- think Jaki Liebezeit of Can for starters- the band is tight, tight post-rock with I believe some former members of The Dazzling Killmen (?)- occasionally very noisy, sometimes more like Faust in pastoral mode. They're really good. You should be "afraid" if you're guitar-phobic, otherwise you should be skipping and dancing . . . check out their song "Death of A Pop Song" if you like thick, funky drums. also, for fans of electro, the tune "Runners Standing Still" on the new Trans Am record is not to be missed. In Boston (earlier tonite) the order was LB then PS then TA. Interesting audience. A lot of young hipsters. Pretensious arty types. Extremely loud show. With earplugs I almost went deaf. Side benefit: some nice body vibrations, esp. with PS. At times I felt my colon moving in new and distinctive ways. They did a good job with the sound, though. You could get a hint of what was happening in the treble without too much painful screeching. My first exposure to LB. Bass and drums are everything with this band. They played some drones/noise with guitars and saxophone, but the meat of it was in the bass player and drummer having nice funky interchanges. In the rhythm section the music was improv heavy. The noise/drones on top were quite repetitive. In general: relentless, harsh, throbbing. Interesting but I don't think I'd want to listen to this band regularly. PS a bit disappointing. Seemed caught between their newer 4-on-the-floor techno beats and their older super-sparse click-and-whir abstraction. They mostly set up loops with their weird analog tone generators, about 8 bars long, then added on other loops to achieve polyrhythm and texture. Heavy use of delay. A lot of 4/4 and some 8/8 and some nice expansion to 9 and 11 later on. There were some nice transitions between pieces, surprises galore there. But otherwise lots of loops, I was hoping for more free-form playing. TA took forever to set up. I don't think they made it for the pre-show soundcheck. So I had to leave. Their lengthy soundcheck was pissing me off and things were dragging on.

Though it wasn't you average art rock crowd. I'd say it was more "nerd-punk", but maybe I need to get out more often.

It was loudest show I'd ever been too and the first time I had to buy ear plugs at a show. But despite that, it was a great show. The vibrations were so strong that I probably would have enjoyed the show even if I was deaf. Anyway...nils described the show pretty we so I won't go into more detail, but liked the fact that they weren't too freeform since I think some their less beat oriented stuff is boring.
