If you've not gone to the kracfive website you must. I don't know why americans get all knee-wobbly over british imports of Skam limited-edition-of-7-pressed-on-soiled-tea-towl records, when there's stuff like kracfive and lores made in the good old U S of A!

We're talking about "Mapping Music" correct? If so, i think that release tops my IDM collection of the most obscure electronica this year. Hope to hear more from Kracfive very soon. The Pacman 2cd release is decent as well, not as smooth as Chris Graves (Colongib) work though..Keep it up Chris! I have to second that motion. Rarely do I hear from CD-R labels those moments of sheer clarity on a record, often associated with those jaw-dropping, ear-opening blissful moments on early Autechre records. While much of the recent output I've heard from newer labels shows promise and a lot of talent, Mapping Music really raises the bar. Tracks 1 and 4 on that disc is absolutely breathtaking. When I listen to new music I tend to look for a balance of both intellect (slick programming, rhythm, challenging sounds) and esthetic (warm, lush sounds, beautiful melodies and a full range of sound). While Chris Graves previous material showed a lot of promise, I think Mapping Music contains tracks that demonstrate for the first time the sheer brilliance he is capable of. np: "BleepbloopRadio presents: "Intellect / Esthetic" CD-R mix. :) I've always felt the balance between intellectually and esthetically pleasing sound is the key to a successful record. At least in my books. I finally finished my first DJ mix which contains what I believe to be a fine balance of house music that challenges the medium while still remaining true to the house groove. Here's a run-down on the track listing... Intro (a few bits from Steve Roach, and other sources) herbert - see you monday aquarhythms - reversion (dubtribe sounds system mix) josh brent (schatrax) - first heart beat azymuth - jazz carnival (global communication mix) terry lee brown jr - skylark espiritu - man don't cry (modwheel mix) mulu - pussycat (francious kavorkian dub) paul hester - the voyage pt. 2 tom churchill - hot air blueprint - widget beats pete moss - changing wave the timewriter - skywritings the modwheel - spirit catcher Expect the bomb to drop on this disc shortly. Here's a few more details regarding the upcoming Kracfive compilation.. $11.99 at Bent Crayon! Also notice that Kracfive ARE NOT a cdr-label.. Well, you might already know that since the repress of Colongib's "Mapping Music" and the latest addition for Noah Sasso's Octopus Inc release were both on cd. Here's the press details cut and pasted for your reading enjoyment.. : ) VA: Penguin Mechanics Vol III CD (KRACFIVE). . "The mechanics were given nearly complete freedom, with the rough guideline of constructing a track that resembles the machine, possibly utilizing recorded/synthesized sounds of -- klankgrinding, motor whirring, metallic collisions, beeps and buzzes -- into rhythmic components. Resultant mechanical devices complement one another: warring machines, lighthearted apparati, anxious robotics, mighty bomotractors with wide loads, thumping gadgets ready for inspection... all in the genus groovemechanismi. Features these artists: brothomStates, Freeform, Colongib, Versh Gear Choir, Bauri, Octopus Inc, V/VM, Proem, Pacman, Chaircrusher, Phthalocyanine, Lackluster, Miragliuolo, Cex." 11.99 Pietro. ___________________________________________ p i e t r o d a s a c c o a u d i o - n i m b u s 9745 lynngrove cr, windsor, ontario, n8r 1b8, canada http://www.rain.org/~audio/grooves/ grooves experimental electronics music mag --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
