Last second thought: anyone ever had dealings with Sonic Groove online before? I went to their site looking for the Jackyl 12" the other day, and they've got a ridiculous amount of out-of-print records listed in their catalog. All kinds of old Planet E, Electron Industries, Rephlex. Do they actually stock what they list or is this just one of those lame deals where they never update the web site?

Well I've never had any deals with them on line, but the two times I've been in the shop they had a ridiculous amount of out-of-print records on the shelves. Nothing spectacular - no Universal Indicators or Mbuki Mvuki for instance, but plenty of back catalogue of all sorts of good labels. Cheerio Andrew C.

the thing about Sonic Groove is that they keep everything they have ever had in stock in the online catalogue. most of what you see, they won't have. thats what they said when i called them about a year ago. i mean come on, Q-Chastic. i doubt they ever had that at all....well maybe. ???Ы ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Just to step in in their defense, their website does say (albeit somewhere not very noticeable and a plain CMA gesture) that it's there for discographical purposes. The obvious rarities they don't have, but you would still be surprised by what they do have. I found Quadrastate and Llanga there on the same day, for normal prices. And though I can't vouch for it, people say that their back catalogue of techno and electro is not to be questioned, or even stared at directly for too long. All in all, they're a good shop and from my experience I wouldn't accuse them of trying to get orders through bait and switch.

I asked them once & they said that they never did. But, yeah, to defend them also, last time I was there they did have a Universal Indicator, the green 3 record set (albeit up on the wall & marked up in price) plus the good old "Bradley's Beat" record (the version I didn't already have!) which I bought for I think only $8 because the cover was a bit torn. Lots of other crazy old stuff, too. Marc Poirier

just to step out of their defense, i talked to them on the phone and they told me the database is just wrong. they do keep everything they've ever gotten in there, but it's supposed to indicate whether or not it's for sale. i believe the ones they're out of are supposed to say "call for availablility" or something like that. nevertheless, i like those guys - they do have good fair prices. jon

well i guess that's fine and all (if you actually get to enter the store, look around and pick your own stuff) but when you have to mail order like most of us, it is a bit of a different story. yes they had Digeridoo and Xylem Tube there that i did buy, but when i got them they were the crappiest looking copies i had ever seen. the vinyl was all poppy and the sleeves were worn to shit. i guess they push all their reject 12" off on unsuspecting mail order kid such as i. AND...not only were the labels WRITTEN ON, but when i peeled the price tags off, the art came with it. i mean WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT! i can't even sell these to anyone (the indignity is to much to bare). they are worthless. so anyway...want to buy a Xylem Tube??? // ???Ы ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. In some instances, what Sonic Groove does regarding rarities is, when a rare record is orderd that they do not have in stock, they will call on many of the local djs (or resident djs) who shop in Sonic to see if they will sell that record. So when you do get a rarity from sonic, very often it is use (and abused). Now i'm not saying that good or bad. I've gotten some records from them that are pristing, while others had seen quite a bit of wear. I'm just letting you know what you're getting into when ordering from Sonic. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

in small defense of sonic groove. all of these "classic" records you people are buying are "used" records. they are out of print for the most part. they come from the employees personal collections and/or bought from others. be lucky and fortunate that you can even find the stuff. i have purchased several out of print records from them via mail order and the prices are reasonable. usually no more than $15.0 USD. my luck has been the condition of the recors to be very good. i would hope that if you do get a "worn" record, that the price they charge for it reflects that. bennyblanco On Mon, 25 Jan 1999, ?t???T?m? lester wrote:

fuuuuuuuuuck that! lucky my ass. i could get almost any of that stuff. its not a matter of luck. don't mean to sound all high and mighty (too late), but if i really want something i can find it, and elsewhere.

nope. i payed 20 and 25 bucks for those two 12"s (Digeridoo/Xylem Tube) and they were trashed. i've gotten better copies of both at S://kimo (when he was at Modern Music) for half that, and they were like new. i will never buy from Sonic Groove again unless i'm actually in the store looking at the records for myself. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
