Word. The more I listen to the Urban Tribe album, the better it gets. I've been working on a review, and it's one of those records that's really, really hard to sum up. Very subtle, very *deep*, for lack of a better adjective. Will's right--trip hop isn't the right word at all, but it does capture some of the moodiness of the record. I think my favorite thing about it is the subtle blending of methods: it combines the synth washes of carl craig with really muted breakbeats (so filtered, i can't quite tell if they're sampled breaks or drum machine), and ever so sparingly drops in the odd sample of jazz horns. really gorgeous. Look for a full review on the upcoming Urban Sounds update. Phil ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Strange... I thought Urban Tribe was and is mainly Sherard Ingram. But no one mentioned him. This great album is mainly by Sherard Ingram. When will he get the recognition he deserves ? Sherard Ingram was already releasing stuff around 1990-1991. ________________________________ disk.system ear se prononce oreille magazine mindless entertainment http://www.worldnet.net/~d2b/ear

Yeah this has always confused me. I guess it's those big names... Unless someone has more inside info on who does most of it. The one thing I didn't understand, though, was the one-sided 12" that appeared to be Kenny Dixon Jr (Moody Man) remixed by Carl Craig, I couldn't see any mention of Ingram at all. The 12" gives production credit to KDJ and Sherard Ingram. I gather this was supposed to be a "look, we have Moodyman and Carl Craig on Mo Wax" thing. But truthfully, you can hear their influence on this track. Nice stuff regardless.
