just picked up the bionaut's "lush life electronica" (harvest/eat raw 1995), and i have to say it's a stellar album. i'm assuming that it's a reissue--or at least that's what i gleaned from bent crayon's release sheets--but in any case, great record. shades of cologne, sun electric, luke slater's seventh plain, autechre circa "amber".... it sounds exactly like the title suggests. pure IDM. it any of that is up your alley, get it. and now my question: i'm a latecomer to the bionaut. what is his other output like? and for another great new acquisition, "koln kompakt presents michael mayer" is an outstanding mix cd showcasing kandis, sweet reinhart, christian morganstern, herbert, some thule artists... perfect tech-house. the mix is nothing too out-there--pretty much allows each track to play out, fairly efficient transitions, no trickery. but anyone who digs the profan/karaoke kalk/kanzleramt/thule axis, especially the more tech-house (less minimal techno) side of those labels, will dig. phil ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

If you like the Life's Lush Electronica release, which originally came out in 1995, then you'll want to get his Fruigivore album for more of the same sound. Another cool release is the Bionaut Re:Mixed Company 12" which has remixes by Mouse on Mars, Mike Ink and Air Liquide. In case you didn't know, The Bionaut is Jorg Burger who also records as The Modernist amogst many other guises and is ½ of the Burger/Ink duo. His releases like The Modernist: Opportunity Knox album or The Modernist eps Dali Bop Horizon and Orange Colored Sky are all in a similar style although with a little more focus on percussion. Moral - if you like the Life Lush Electronica album then you'll definitely enjoy the other Bionaut, The Modernist and Burger/Ink releases.

Yes the new koln kompakt mix cd features a class group of artists mixed by M Mayer. But, did you know... There was another comp cd that came out earlier this year with the same name koln kompakt on the koln label "Kompakt." That comp featured tracks from Kandis, Studio 1, Thomas Mayer, The Modernist, Dr. Walker & Freddy Fresh, Tandem, M:I:5, Thomas Brinkmann, Pentax, Triple R & Emanuel, Jürgen Paape, OM1, and Dr. Walker & M Flux. I believe all the tracks on it were previously unreleased. Both Koln Kompakt releases are well worth having. Regarding Michael Mayer, most recently he is one the members of the german techno supergroup Forever Sweet who just released a brilliant album on Ladomat 2000. M. Mayer is a favorite producer of mine. His two eps on the New Transatlantic label from back in 97 - Heaven & Frost - are both beautiful deep/minimal techno records. Ok enough background rambling to Phil's already informative post. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Speaking of ... Matador has released [las vegas], Burger/Ink's album of brilliant subdued trance, in the USA on CD. Catalog # is OLE 334-2. Mmm mm good. More info on many releases with a similar feel can be found at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/KemkerWolf/harvest.htm And links to the whole incestuous scene are at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/9651/links.htm - Mike ______________________________________________________________________ Mike Brown / Hyperreal | Director, Hyperreal Music Archive PO Box 61334 | http://www.hyperreal.org/music/ Denver CO 80206-8334 USA |

you'll also want a CD called "Please Teenage" which doesn't have the Air Liquide mix, but has the Mike Ink remix and a different MoM remix, plus 9 other tracks! EXCELLENT CD and I just picked it up at MusicBlvd for $10.22 np: raw stevens : 909 killer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Karaoke Kalk / Tom http://members.aol.com/volumunits/karaoke_kalk.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I second that. great full-length priced as an ep. you should definitely like it if you like lush life electronica. the wild horse annie ep is also nice to have. btw, joerg burger played live (as the modernist) a few times last week at the 10-day battery park cologne festival. while i almost only heard him play opportunity knox and orange coloured sky material earlier in the summer, this time he cranked out some very funky new tracks that i had never heard before. so maybe there's something new coming up? cheers, tom
