I picked up the domestic LP5 the other day. I have to say I think I like this one much more than Chiastic Slide. Anyway, anyone know why they put that 8-9 minutes of silence in track 11? Is that how the Warp one is? Jeff

For what I know, the bleeps and bloncks at the end are kind of a bonus track. So the silence does make sense, not ? I mean it's the usual way of keeping the bonus track a bit more secret. Not everybody let's the cd run to the end but stops the playback as soon as he/She thinks the last track is finished ... What exactly IS the deal with these so-called hidden tracks anyway? Usually I just sit here with the music playing away till it stops and I'm too pre-occupied to bother, and SUDDENLY I nearly jump out of my skin when unexpectedly noise emits from the speakers. Not really what I consider a 'bonus' as such. Shock treatment, more like it ... I *

agreed_ the 2nd future primatives soundsession cd with ztrip and radar has this. a co-worker about laid down after this 'bonus' kicked in. not so sure these are meant as much as bonus as they are intended as hidden, although the various other ideas for hidden material sound much more appealing (cd-rom portion and that thing that the x-files cd did where you had to go back before the first track) brap@sonic.net icq_12645306 http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ coming sooner than later: sfwd0004 - pre-mil·len·ni·um soundscapes 12" our future has never been so frightening: http://williamshatner.com/

i know that certainly doesn't apply to me. i think the most annoying thing about the 12 minute lag is that if i have the five-disc changer loaded up, it's like, all of a sudden, there's just no music. if they wanted to do somethign like that, they could have just as easily made the space maybe two minutes, five tops. or not at all. said it before and i'll say it again - hardly what i'd consider a "bonus" track. not really a track. love the rest of the album, tho... alan!

I always find the shock quite exciting, but what I actually find mor interesting is the act of hiding tracks before the first ID point so you have to scan backward sto access them and even them it only works on certain cd players. now thats what I call "hidden". You need a certain piece of software and misuse it just right butthe results are well worth it if you are into messing with yr audience. -kid606

Talking of shocks, has anyone else out there got the Orb's remix of Blur Pearl's 'Mother Dawn'? One of the tracks is all very mellow and blissed out when suddenly, out of nowhere, eerie industrial noises suddenly blast out of the speakers at twice the 'normal' volume of the track. Scared the shit out of me first time I heard it. In a similar vein is that track on Aphex Twin's 'I Care', all backgound ambience until that sound like a snooker ball-filled sock hitting a table gives you a heart attack.

This reminds of A Guy Called Gerald's 'Automannik' album on CD. Play it through 'normally' and it sounds like the vinyl version, but rewind at the start of many tracks and you get a few snippets of extended samples and introductions. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

Just put it on a few minutes ago, seeing as I hadn't heard it for a few years. The track's a nice wash of dark, brooding strings and vocal ripples, no rhythm at all. The loud sound that hits you is right near the end, a piercing, distorted sine wave that pulses back into the darkness. My cat was sitting nearby at the time and she must have jumped about three feet into the air. Chortle. Who wants an MP3? /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

sounds similar to front242's "l'ange moderne". a nice simple dark-ish orchestral/operatic piece which suddenly drops into a hard techno section. alternates a few times throughout the song.
