hey all, i went by othermusic today, spotted the new plaid and autechre domestics for $13. pretty sweet deal... i'm really looking forward to their show next week. if any out-of-towners need someone to get them tickets, i can maybe help you out. drop me a line privately. don't know if it's been mentioned before, but it seems dj wally is going to be there too. anyway i saw what appears to be a new talvin singh album (not a comp). didn't catch the name... it's white and it's in a weird see through plastic case that you unbutton to open. and it seems ryuichi sakamoto has contributed on some of the tracks. anybody know anything about this release? is it good, or what? it was fucking $28, which kinda turned me off. especially since i don't listen to my anokha album all that often. i liked anokha a lot at first, maybe because it had a real new, fresh sound, but it's kind of worn off now... later on, -ali _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? The major label debut from the Brit Indian fusionist who's played tabla live for Massive Attack and Bjork, and done a host of remixes. The album is a nice combination of uptempo junglish tracks with atmospheric pieces with violin and Indian vocals (even some Asian ones on the title track - and next single). The first single, 'Traveller', is the most progressive, taking a step towards a Goldie-ish stringed epic. CD will be released in North America in Nov. 'Specially packaged, limited edition release' from UK. 1/1. 'Traveller' the first single - 'the world is sound' - Indian mysticism turned travelogue 2. 'Butterfly' upbeat sitar and junglish tablas, flute, string synths 2/1. 'Sutrix' fast tablas, plunging bassline, female vocal and spacey background 2. 'Mombasstic' ambient-ish track w/ dub bass, syncopated percussion, trumpet melody 3. 'Decca' short track - spoken word intro on Indian mythology to dark jungle bass sounds 4. 'Eclipse' pipe, male chant, violin, classical rag singing 3/1. 'OK' Asian female singing & stringed instrument w/ techno-y breakbeats 2. 'Light' flute, piano and jazzy hip hop drums/tabla 3. 'Disser/Point.Mento.B' violin and ambience 4/1. 'Soni' violin/bass swell ambience w/ female chorus - spoken word ending 2. 'Vikram The Vampire' voice box and ambience, tabla/drums pick up intensity

In addition, he's already got one full length album out already on his own label, Omni. Very much more in the ambient vein, two tracks.... one of which is 35 minutes long. Drum + Space "Calcutta Cyber Cafe." I do remember it being repressed recently, so it may be possible to order it. Aaron

I haven't heard the new album yet, but the traveller single has an interesting orchestral/ambient sound to it. -steve -----Original Message----- From: ali <shellac@rocketmail.com> To: idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org> Date: Wednesday, October 07, 1998 8:23 PM Subject: (idm) othermusic, new (?) talvin singh
