contrary to bent crayon's belief, this is not herbert. it's carl finlow, who has recorded under a number of different names for the 20:20 Vision, Phono, Klang, Emissions, and Electron Industries labels (for the latter together with gaz whatsisname as Scarletron). i'm with joe that you should buy the thing on site, but if you'd like to get a better sense of the record first, there'll be a full review (penned by idm's own solenoid!) with realaudio samples up with the second (finally!) issue of urban sounds in about a week's time. (other goodies to expect in that issue include a bochum welt interview, a review of the "love from beyond" party in detroit--go teep!--and realaudio mixes from djs kazoo, gamewarden, and kym serrano, aka first mode of ersatz audio and spelunk recordings)... peace, sc onnow: coil : time machines (eskaton)

Anyone who has heard Voice Stealer's 'The electric house', please let me know your impressions? I've seen it around going cheap and am sure someone recommended it to me, but cannot remember what it was like. Electro in quite a "nu-skool" style, ie. lots of 808s and really sparse and atonal? i love it, there's a delicious low-tech 80s feel to it imho, though not as much as the il.ek.tro 12" on klang. the really sad bit is that when i was in london in june i tried to dig up more and was told that carl finlow's other releases have been (apparently) all house. i haven't come across any of his other stuff though, so if anyone could review/name THOSE i'd be interested. s. all electric house is what michael rother would sound like if he had half a clue (i figure he's at about 1/4 clue), though that's a bit a lame comparison. it's an extremely well-made and quite varied collection of current new wave flavored electro. other lame comparisons: a hi-fi i-f or le car with modern keyboard technology. solenoid wrote a good review in the outgoing issue of urbansounds. carl finlow was also half of scarletron, the last non-j.saul kane 12 on electron industries. that record doesn't sound anything like a.e.h. or il.ek.tro, it's more like dj pierre doing e.b.m. anybody know where to get il.ek.tro? eric [sally]

I like that il.ek.tro 12 enough, but thought his vocals ruined it. Does the voice stealer album have much in the way of vocals? I was under the impression - via www.sugarrush.com - that this was by Herbert. Which of course means I need to rush out and find it immediately if its true... Anyone confirm or deny? Whats the label? Merci BienAndrew C.
