Press Release/News Blurb: Orb Plans "Best-Of" Album Ambient music hucksters the Orb will release their first-ever greatest-hits collection Nov. 17. Titled "U. F. Off - The Best Of The Orb," the Island set will feature 12 of the veteran act's tracks, including "Little Fluffy Clouds" (currently being used in a Volkswagen Beetle commercial) and the monstrously titled "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld." The first 15,000 copies of "U.F. Off" will be packaged with a bonus disc, which will include seven previously unreleased mixes, as well as live versions and alternate edits. In addition, the Orb recently paired with former Take That singer Robbie Williams for a cover version of the Bee Gees' track "I Started A Joke." The collaboration is to be featured on a Bee Gees tribute album, "Gotta Get A Message To You," which is scheduled to be released Oct. 12 in Europe by Polydor. No U.S. street date is scheduled at the present time. For those that are interested (especially after the BoC fiasco), here's a few upcoming major American release dates from the pages of ICE. Does anyone know anything about the 4 Hero album being released domestic? hah! dr lx sure has island right. he signed on for a six album deal with them. so far there's been _live 93_, _orbus terrarum_, _orblivion_, and now this. not bad - he only actually had to write and record one of them! * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# see the stars, they're shining bright/everything's alright tonight

What about that Mini-LP, Pomme Fritz? That was released on Island, but I'm not terribly sure if it qualifies as an album or not.... That would bring the tally up to 5... Bleep np: (eep) Goldie - Saturnzreturn If you fast forward thru the first 22 minutes of the first disc, and listen to the middle part of mother, it's actually quite enjoyable. As for the second disc, there's perhaps two redeeming tracks, but the rest of it is unlistenable.

Hmph. IMO, 4Hero's _Two Pages_ craps all over _New Forms_ from an enormous height. YMMV. -d.w.

To be fair, both _Orbus_Terrarum_ and _Orblivion_ consist of original material, so that's two, not one. Plus, Island *asked* for _UFOff_, so you can't really blame LX for that. Island is really getting into the greatest hits thing: they just signed a contract with U2 for *3* greatest hits albums. Gotta wonder about that. I imagine this conversation: Island: Here's $50 million, please let us compile tracks you've already recorded and made famous. Oh, yeah, and we want to make three packages out of it. Would that be OK with you? U2: Um, OK. To bring this to a complete circle, I reallyreallyreally hope that the Orb's remix of "Numb" ends up on one of the forthcoming CDs. -- Adam J Weitzman NewsEdge Corporation This space intentionally left http://www.newsedge.com blank. well, yes, true, but _orbus terrarum_ was completed before he signed to island. he signs, then two weeks later, "here's album no.1, release it". i'm not blaming him - i just see this proliferation of non-new albums as bringing the orb's end closer, and i don't like that.

yeah, i can't see them saying no to that.
