Just noticed that most people who sent in lists had a fair amount of US industrial stuff listed which I thought was interesting - shows how the IDM readership has really shifted from a UK/European base (when we used to talk about things like The Orb, Rephlex, A.R.T. and Detroit influenced techno with only guys like Jon (Drukman) and Greg banging on about industrial stuff) to now where its more US based. Seem to talk about more experimental stuff nowadays as well - presumably thats everyones kind of industrial influences coming through and being into CD's skipping and wotnot. I used to know almost all the bands/artists mentioned on IDM a few years back but I certainly don't now. This shift is no bad thing at all - just something I just noticed. Detroit techno and ambient stuff doesn't really get a mention any more but thats due to 313 and Ambient lists forming I guess. I think I had a point - blame my hangover. || [CiM] || cim_@hotmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

i think this has alot to do with the fact the in the early 90's industrial became a truly stagnate genre of music ... i can only speak for myslef here but apart from the occasional gem (the last 2 true skinny puppy albumssome of the cop shoot cop stuff) you get guitar driven metal-industrial crossover stuff (i lay the blame squarely on all jourgensons[sp] feet) ... i still followed cabaret voltaire through some weird transistions .. and it just so happens that richard kirk became and incredible 'idm' artist .. it also happened that when i first heard surfing on sine waves and inccabula it sounded more 'industrial' to me than anything people like pigface (idustrial supergroup?) and the chicago tribe were putting out ... now your getting people who used to be considered industrial putting out fantastic albums ... [Haujobb anyone?] to me its a very clear metamorphosis form mid eighties industrial to the current crop of semi undergroud electronic music .. m.

Well i didn start out in industrial. I was into cheesy alternative dance stuff like soup dragons, jesus jones, happy mondays, inspirial carpets, big audio dynamite, electronic, and revenge. but slowly i discovered the releases below... . Orb: Adventures in the Ultraworld 2xcd (Wau Mr Modo) . 808 State: Ninety cd (ZZT) . As One: Reflections cd (New Electronica) . B12: Electro-Soma cd (Warp) . Autechre: Inculabula cd (Warp) . Black Dog Productions: Bytes cd (Warp) . KLF: Chill Out cd (KLF Comm) . Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works 85-92 cd (Apollo) . Bandulu: Antimatters cd (Infonet) . Reload: A Collection of Short Stories cd (Infonet) and i've been bigtime ever since...

I'm also guilty of getting into the more experimental stuff lately labels like mego, phthalo, soniq, a-musik, sabotage, moikai have been turning my crank lately but i haven't stopped buying other styles. still have pleanty of detrtoit, techno, tech-house, house and idm. i'll get those recoreviews out soon.

I still LOVE detroit stuff. I have a slew of recoreviews waiting to be done, many of those are detroit releases. I'll try to get those reviewed on posted soon.
