MITSU
Shylight
DSL017 (12)
Canadian born KEVIN ROSS set foot in Belgium back in 1993. Tantalized with
the musical scenery and possibilities of Antwerp, Kevin immeshed himself in
the weave of the town.
He became founder and drummer of FLOW, a fresh and cunning live band that
brought a flavour of jazz to their beats, both sharp and sweet and was one
of the original funky drummers of the DUBTALES.
Plus he became a member of CINÉREX after "Exit all areas". Cinérex members
also participated in the production of MITSU, Kevin' s new project (as they
did with the RAW - "Shit Goddamn EP") and his first release on Downsall
Plastics.
With influences such as JAZZANOVA, early SQUAREPUSHER and early BASEMENT
JAXX, MITSU 's color is really focused on the rhythmic section. The long
track on the a-side is definitely destined for that dancefloor, keeping it
damn funky all the way. The flipside shows two tracks with an overall
jazzfunk feel over it, but the uptempo drumbeats keep it all freaky and
yes, very interesting
With extra musicians MIRKO BANOVIC (Flow) on bass, THOMAS DE PRINS on
Rhodes and IVAN TIRTIAU on voxes, they bring us fresh madness and a lust
for moving.
