i listened to this in the store (so, i admit i good solid listen might change my mind) -- and i found it to be pretty unimpressive. someone change my mind with explanations on why its so good.. because i really do not think i get it. that said, i really like the new bola 7".. and the gescom is pretty nice as well. but, the cd that keeps ending back in my pplayer is that matmos oddity. fuckng brilliant. i like to think of it as the "slender fungus" for the next generation. chris.

I agree on both counts. I was really anxious to hear Spectrum after I read what people were saying on the newsgroups and this list about it. I listened to it at the store and then double-checked the cover to make sure I had the right cd. It was decent, but not "mind-blowing" like people were saying. Perhaps the problem is that I am really enjoying "Explorers_We" by Farmers Manual and Matmos's "Quasi Objects." Now those ARE mind-blowing! I'm in a phase of craving unique sound textures and I felt the sounds on Spectrum didn't challenge me enough. my review of matmos: its the slender fungus of tomorrow. (slender fungus is a tones on tail song made entirely from body sounds.. matmos seems to do very similar stuff.. using sounds from various odd sources.. usually concentrating on one source per song.. and its quite funky). thats it. chris.

well, it makes me laugh :) but i cant make the comparison.. the only wishmountain i have is the radioboy thing... and radioboy tends to be very cold, which matmos is not.. what is wishmountains sound like then? chris.

This is their full-length CD, "Endless", which has been released on Blast First recently. It would be dull to say that it combines the best parts of Suicide and Pan sonic, but I say that anyway :) I've listened to it a couple of times now, and so far my favourite track is 'Incredible Criminals' which practically nailed me when I heard it for the first time - ultra-abrasive electronic horsemeat rockabilly [(c) Mika Vainio] with Vega's ghost-like dubby vocals.
