i bought the scribbler by shinjuku thief on a whim & it wasn't what i was expecting. lots of piano, pretty simple, underdeveloped and not terribly interesting. how are the other shinjuku albums different from the scribbler... interesting what you said about download's the eyes of stanley pain as it's probably my favorite download release. "glassblower" reminds me of some of the harser aphex material, but even better imho. a lot of interesting songs, and a few duds that stop it from working as an entire album. still quite good... as for muslimgauze, i've considered trying some of his stuff out but have been scared away because i feel like it might be too "worldy" for my tastes. any recommendations? tanks. ethan

try "bloody tourist" - it is not simple or underdeveloped at all... it is total sensory overload.

try "veiled sisters" ... two cds of hypnotic loops that play off against each other create intricate polyrhythms. just the vaguest hint of the odd eastern drum or arabic voice. <color><param>0000,0000,0000</param>The Prolific One has churned out so many releases, that it's almost impossible to keep up with him - but a good place to start, and maybe a gentler springboard would be the Staalplaat double CD "Occupied Territories" - Disc 1 being 'occupied beats' and disc 2 'occupied frequencies'. This is not pure Bryn Jones, although there are two of his own mixes as well. Remixers include Drome / Human Beings / O Yuki Conjugate / Zion Train / zoviet*france / Nonplace UF / Panasonic. (+-96?)
